Angry WR1 knocking, very sad day.....

For today is the day Subaru lost a loyal customer of 6years.

After my dealer has changed
all four drive shafts
diffs
and tightened up the splines
there's still knocking coming from the rear of the car.

Not to mention the turbo been changed the first month,,,,,, mistake as it was engine noise due to a hole in the rubber bung in the bulkhead.

Over the last 3 months the car has been at the dealers more than it's been on my drive........... each time the car you get to drive is an insult to all scooby drivers, a brick with 4 wheels, something the pizza boy on his scooter can blast past................

So I dumped her on Saturday, trade her in was the way forward.

There's a lot to be said for after sales, which Simpson's fail to understand is very important.......
pick-up and drop off when the car needs to go in the garage
free coffee/drinks when your waiting around in the service area.
Magazines that are of this year, not that old that the latest cars to be released in 2000.

ps. anyone want a prodrive strut brace?

Tell me more - I'm getting a knocking from the steering column when I hit a bump on left hand bends - what did your dealer think caused your knocking?

it could be the suspension,
would not not think that Subaru would have a central knowledge database, with all faults that could be search from all dealerships for similar issue's that's happened in the past.
I think not, they are still in the *loody stone age............

we now know that if you want QUALITY YOU DON'T GO FOR SUBARU.

Hello there ScoobyTom, they think its a spring that needs upgraiding (from the Subaru faults database), the mobile Subaru Technition bod is also going to have a look as they asked if I could bring it in when he visits so will post a wee update tomorrow if its cured the problem.
Saying that I get this knocking/shuddering noise when turning either way on bumpy roads and you can feel it coming up the steering column

I assume you had the shocks checked? I had a sticking shocker on a 03 STi which sounded like knocking. It got progressivley worse until I could actually feel it sticking! Not an uncommon problem I'm led to believe.

They changed both rear shocks (wanted to change just one but I created a scene! )

SCOOBYTOM: I also get a knock when ever i steer left either at speed or accelerating. It's there when i turn slow but not as pronounced. I have the top heat shield off the turbo as it's getting modified to fit over my 3inch decat downpipe. When it knocks its really pronounced and scares me for my cars life!! I have had her up on the ramps so many times but cant seem to see any where that could knock or shows signs of wear, let me know if you resolve it before me!!

Well, I'm off to Powerstation to let them have a look tomorrow - after all they built the thing so I'm sure that they will be able to fix it. I'll post the answer as soon as I know.

Aftersales!! Important part of a dealership i thought but some of the dealers don't seem to think that..
I'm still waiting a response from my local dealer after contacting them and subaru uk.Wonder how many weeks are going to go by!! The next time the dealership hears from me will be with a transfer of warranty form..
Sorry to hear you had so many problems on an awesome piece of kit ScoobyTom....

shame you are selling car ?try different dealer or get louder exhaust so you do not hear knocking,to be honest for a "new" car that is a lot to be replaced ?a friday afternoon car possibly

I take it you got a Proton? When ours went into Simpsons for a service on friday we got a light blue Proton Satria 'Sport'. We live at the top of the hill which the Proton couldnt make it up!!!!

Sorry to hear that you are having problems. A long time ago when I still had a UK car, I left home one morning to find the ABS light on. Rang Simpsons (not where I got it from - just happened to be the nearest dealer) and was told to take it in. Within 30mins of arriving, I had been given the receptionists car (OK a Proton, but it did have Air!) to get on my way and the car was back with me complete with new ABS computer within a couple of days. Perhaps things have declined since then, but had to say I was impressed.

Its funny but I found it rather a laugh to see how much I could get out of it down the M4! Turn the Air Con on and it suddenly went backwards!

I did have a similar feeling though when I had my Nissan 200SX - for a couple of weeks I had the pleasure of a Micra - did think it must have been the most anyone had ever paid to drive one of them!

Sorry to hear that mate.

Did you end up selling it back to Rob S? If not, what did you trade it in against - not that Porshe you were on about recently?

Knocking is probably the strut tops of the rear suspension, easy check is to jack it up under the rear diff and let the suspension hang,, drop back down and take for a drive, if quiet then thats it. Worked for me.

I'd love the strut brace please If you're serious

It would appear your dealer uses my dealers code of conduct aswell.......

Kin useless. I am still trying to pay for a service done 2 months ago and they are STILL unable to get the invoice right.

There sales guy needs shooting as is by far and away the single most ignorant git i've ever met.

Sad to here it though matey. Best of luck with whatever you go for next.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the kind words of sympathy, it is a pity that due to the problems I've had with the car and the *loody pool cars "Proton" Simpons use has left a bad taste in my mouth....... I feel if I kept the car any longer all the parts would have been changed and I'd have a new car again......... what they don't think of is the time I have to take out to get the car to them and pick it up again.

Hi Bob,,,,, sounds a bit simple fix for Simpsons to work out, never mind the car goes this afternoon.

Iwan,,,, how's it going, hope your looking after your baby.......... we'll have to sort beers out when Ian gets back in the office.... he's always on holiday.
I traded the WR1 in with Mercedes, pick up the new car this evening when the tracker is swapped over...... Gone for the SLK 55 AMG, bit of a waiting list but I got this as a canceled order.....

p.s. the strut brace was sold yesterday.

Clive
