Bird ****!
The other day I got home from work to find by far the largest bird sh1te I've ever seen adorning the front of my Impreza (I work at a petrol processing plant by the sea, so we get a lot of seagulls etc, in the car park). Anyway, I got home and washed it off, but was surprised to find that a mark was clearly visible on the paint where it had been. I got the polish out, but it was still visible. So, I got the T-Cut out, and then polished it again, to no avail. This morning when I washed the car, I used the clay bar, then polished it once more, but it's still no better.
I'm amazed that bird muck could cause this much damage in the few hours it was on the car for - I've never found it to be the case on any of my other cars. However, when I got it, my car had two marks on the paintwork which look like they were also caused by bird muck - I always assumed the previous owner had simply been careless and left it on for a long time, but now I'm not so sure... is there something wrong with the paint on my car, or do Subaru just use really crappy paint?!

My fiesta zetec s got shat on one day and it lifted the laquer off. The paint up till then was in great condition and I used zymol on it.
I've been told by people in the know...that it depends on what the little flying vermin eat and the time of year. Grrrr

if they eat all the berries i think their plop becomes highly alkaline and damages paint. prevention is better than a cure and to this end i recommend a 12bore side by side.

Month old WR blue WRX with 'sticky berry' sh*t on the roof. Has permanently marked it under the laquer despite Autoglym's best efforts. Only took 24 hours to do this.
P***ed off Barney.

I had a big birdy doo doo on our Fiesta roof, but as it started to rain I assumed it would just wash off overnight. Big mistake as most of bird poo melded to the paint and I can't remove it with clay bar or nuffink.

I had the same problem with a black Fiat Cinqucento Sporting. The poop burned straight through to the white undercoat. The car was only a few weeks old too. Luckily the dealer resprayed the roof free of charge for me.
According to a Which? report from a while back Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection gave the best protection from Bird Lime.
