Question Warrantee claims on imports

Hi
I have just ordered a UK spec import WRX wagon from Alliance and I was wondering if claims with the Subaru 3 year warrantee are straightforward. Has anyone tried claiming at a Subaru main dealer with an European import?

I asked a similar question recently as I too got a car from alliance. Not many replies but all positive I think. You just need to register your car with IM first and any claims have to be agreed with the supplier in cyprus.

Not sure about US imports I don't know if they are from Europe or Japan though I did notice a yellow subaru in New York this summer, not sure if that was an import cos Yellow isn't a normal colour is it?

I had too look twice as I thought it was, reckon its a good disguise for New York as most of the cars seem to be Yellow Taxis

Problem with car
Go to UK dealer
UK dealer contacts original selling dealer and awaits the go-ahead to carry out the work
When the selling dealer get round to it they authorise the work.
UK dealer set about the work and this may include the customer shelling out up front.
UK Dealer sends costs to selling dealer
Selling dealer cough up
UK dealer reimburse customer if relevant

Oh and all the foregoing can only take place if Car registered with International motors (IM)

maf sensor replaced under warranty on an 02 wrx euro import a few months ago. there was some confusion between local dealer and IM, but the guy from IM was very helpful and sorted it out properly. euro imports (if you are not the first owner) will usually be registered under the VIN rather than the VRN - that's 'apparently' what confused the local dealer...

Not necessarily warrenty related but I had all sorts of problems when I needed work carried out on my STi, after only having it 2 months I needed some work doing on the front end (country lane, wet, tractor mud, heavy right foot, you get the picture).

It was bought it was a 'euro spec' car and I was told it was coming in from Cyprus, but after getting the local Subaru dealer to look at it (not the place it was bought, obviously) they refused to even touch it becuase it wasnt registered. Going back to the importer he said he would get it sorted, messed me about for nearly 2 months before it came out that it was bought from a dealer in Cyprus but was actually a Japenese car so there were problem with getting it registered in Europe.

It took me three months in total to get the work done, and the insurance company ended up getting it done in a Audi garage !

The dealer has said that they will honour the warrenty if they cant get it registered as I am still waiting for notification that it can/will be, some 9 months on.
