Yes, don't pay a penny untill you have it checked by a specialist. With imports it's particularly important to check the health of the engine as if its not been run on SUL with ctane booster/been remapped for UK fuel, then its a safe bet that its only a matter of time before you're looking at a rebuild, which will add about another 2k (possibly more) to the asking price!

If you like it, put a holding deposit down on it then get it checked out! You really must take a tyre kicker approach to these cars as if you get it wrong, it's gonna hurt!

Nearest ones I'm aware of are:

Xtreme Scoobies in Boreham (Essex) Fantastic bunch, it's where I take mine.
Subaru for you nr Reading. Not used them myself yet, but Len has a very good reputation on here!
Power Engineering (Uxbridge) Again, very good reputation as far as I'm aware.

I'm sure others have more suggestions

I had the AA one on mine. Was impressed, but sadly they discontinued the service. RAC is by all accounts very good too. DO bare in mind that these tpe of checks will cost a couple of hundred quid, so you might want to do a bit of conditional haggling over the price before getting them done or the seller will have you over a barrel! :-) You're not going to walk away from a car ou've invested £200 in getting checked out, now are you? :-) Do ensure that whatever check you go for includes a compression test on the engine.
