AFAIR even having a radar detector in the car is a in France - even if it isn't switched on / visble they can still nick you...
PS A road angel isn't technically a radar detector - it's a gps receiving device that checks your current position relative to a database of known camera locations and warns you if you are in the vicinity. The 'classic' versions have an add-on laser detector which is built in to the newer version (until Mr B. Liar makes it illegal to detect the signal and it'll have to be disabled... )
Personally, I've got an origin b2 and tomtom go with the camera database on it
This might sound "holier than thou" but I don't speed much and not excessively to a point where I couldn't slow down if needed and also, IMO the laser detectors are almost a waste of time unless you're hidden behind someone else and pick up a weak, stray signal - what are you going to do about slowing down from "certain" speeds in 0.2 sec as that's the time it's takes for a reading (and getting ready to lick the stamp on the NIP envelope ?)

Agree totally....
Yes, radar and laser detectors are illegal in France so best not to have anything on display otherwise it's cause enough for them to stop you and confiscate it - that's everything as well.
Likewise, on the b2 I have now taken off my laser detector. It has never once gone off in a normal drive (in two years ownership) yet everytime I drive into Heathrow, it goes bonkers and will not stop until you leave. Basically, it has never saved me and probably never will as by the time the laser hits you, you;re pretty much damned anyway - that's if it even works although I'm sceptical. I've had cops pointing guns at me, but I have no idea if they were radar, laser or even bullet-fed! I'm still here though....

I use Road Angel. Never go out without it.
Saved my licence many a time. Not speeding to excess, but when driving somewhere I've never been before, it's a godsend.
Thinking of upgrading to the new smaller unit though, as the original one seams very bulky now.
