Angry So Depressed

Morning,

as a proud owner of 2004 WRX SL, im depressed, my mate has a evo 8 320 and it sounds like s£x of 4 wheels, my little scooby cant match the sound... so i was in to get my 1 year and saw they where offering STI exhust for £99 and i thought mmmmm maybe my little SL will sound that little much better for £99, so paid the £99, looks great, but only and little bit of sound difference, any of you guys suggest a way of making my scooby sound that little bit better.

1. with out buying the PPP (dont get me started on scooby giving that away this year and i dont have a spare £1600)
2. with out spending a fortune and having to change my issurance

i have to say though im a complete scooby convert although the evo sounds better.

Ben

Decat centre pipe, shouldn't be too expensive. You could always take the existing pipe off and shatter the cat and then remove the pieces Or look in For Sale as some people move on from PPP and sell off some of the bits.

You can also get some induction noise, and make the OE recirc DV audible by removing the resonator in the wing. See HERE. A quality free flowing panel filter helps too, mine is a JR Racing but Green & K&N are just as good. Since doing this free and easy mod I have noticed the engine running cooler, especially in traffic. Not tested, but you would perceive that there may be a slight power gain, due to cooler air flowing with less restriction. But maybe that's me being hopeful

Not sure what your mate has done with the 320 to make it sound good, but ive heard a decat fq300 and that sounded like a hoover, rather lifeless IMHO.

Tony

PS should say that scoobs do sound better than evo's, i think even evo drivers would agree with that

Thumbs up

MR 320 has HKS super Drager exhaust as standard, if it also has a de cat pipe and HKS downpipe it will sound Fantastic. At 3500 rpm it will sound like the Gods of War have arrived all the way round to the red line. The HKS exhaust comes as standard with a Bung in the back box and with this in will sound a bit flat.

No need mate. Why not just change the back box from standard - if you have a problem needing the warranty you can always swap it back. If you don't want to do it, I'm sure plenty garages around will do if for a few quid...

I've got a Blitz BB which sounds mint - 10mins to fit, too!! It really does release the burble and sounds like a bike at 6k rpm!!

Personally, i bought my MY99 totally standard and wanted a bit of grunt so bought a Ninja Backbox and afterburner de-cat centre section from scoobyworld and from standard, it makes the car sound awesome.... well worth a thought..

As been said already,go for a good after market b/box,the STI one is on the quiet side.i'm using a TSL Firestorm and i've been laughing like a nutter since i fitted it to my 04 wrx.Cant wait to de-cat it next! I.m also running a bailey vta dump valve ,which also sounds pretty good for that meaty race car effect!!For around £300 - £500 a scoob will sound better than any EVO!!
