Can anyone tell me what the auto WRX wagns from Japan are like to drive? What is the 0-60mph on say an auto 1995 wagon, I lvoe scoobies and prospect of 4wd keeping me on the road is very appealing also need the big boot the wagon gives, is the handling good etc like the saloon?

What about insurance is it fairly reasonable?

Automatic Wagons are surprisingly quick to drive; all you need to do is steer..... The 0-60 is very close to that of a manual transmission vehicle.

Thereabouts, probably a bit quicker actually as a manual is closer to five seconds I think that an automatic 'Wagon will do it in six seconds.

I drive a MY96 WRX Auto Wagon every day, you would be surprised at just how quick they are with the correct fuel in. I have recently fitted a Green panel filter and on my car the difference is very noticable, the turbo must be spooling up a bit quicker.
I did not tell my wife that I had made any changes to the car and she drove it today and the first thing she said after her drive was "What have you done to the car? it seems so effortless to get up to speed". She then confessed to going on to the Motorway and checked her speed, she had accelerated from the slip road up to 100mph in "no time at all".!!!

So my recommendation is...go for it, you will not be disapointed.

Sounds brilliant worried about getting insured though, Im 21 been driving for just over 3 years as named driver and live in London if they wont do fully comp will I get third party fire and theft and reasonable price?

I drive a 95 wrx 47k mlie wagon auto..effortless power, very suprised hence i bought it, your gran could drive it..if you wanted her 2. its just foot on the floor and steer, still v entertaining....21 yr old, deep pockets needed mate!

They don't handle quite as well as the saloon version due to the lack
of a bulkhead in the rear, that said they can be tightened up with the use
of a front and rear strut brace and an adjustable rear roll bar.

Other than that they are a dream to drive with the added bonus of being
very practical.

You won't be dissapointed, but take your time and find a good one, loads about
at the mo.

Problem solved, carry on as named driver and the insurance is very reasonable. Can anyone tell me what kind of mods to the auto models will give a decent improvement in performance? Im thinking exhaust, induction kit, boost increase what kind of improvements will I see and is it worth upgrading brakes and suspension or are they excellent as standard on the import WRX?

Who is London and the South East is recommended for tuning Scoobys? Cheers.

Cosidering the ability of the Wagon the brakes are shocking, that should be your
first mod if your looking at upping the power output.

As for extra horses, changing the exhaust for a full de-cat will release more
power than most other mods, but it's not going to pass a MOT like that, so you need to put it back on.

Stay away from induction kits, they draw in warm air unless sheilded and can
cause problems with the mass air filter (MAF).
A good quaility panel filter such as K&N, Green coton, JR & Simota will help
the engine breath alot easier and rev more freely.

I put an induction kit on mine and within 2 months the MAF went, **** myself thinking it was wasted. Now use Trust pannel filter and H&S centre decat and backbox with great results. Fast enough and reliable

Nick; 'Wagons dont have a centre cat., only one in the downpipe. he centre section that looks like a cat is actually only a resonator.

Personally much prefer the wagon to the saloon, far more stealthy and less likely to attract the wrong sort of attention!! Would also recommend a change of ecu for UK fuel (octane boosters make a real mess of your fuel system in my experience) and a TD05 turbo upgrade.
