Parallel import
a car from Holland on a parallel import, is the speedo in mph? also isit completley indetcal spec to a uk. Would the Subaru warranty for 3 years cover this car? Would this come with a Cat1 alarm/immobiliser?

on the parallel import, you wont have a cat 1 alarm fitted as standard, if you have bought second hand in the uk like me, the previous owner had this fitted.
As far as I am aware, everything else is the same on my my99 as a bonafide uk car.
I am not sure about the warrenty issue, someone else with more brain power will be along soon

Yes speedo in mph. Usually you get different front seats with no side airbags, no locking wheelnuts, no alarm at all.
You would need to inform Subaru UK with copy of certificate of confirmity for them to register it and get your 3 year Euro warranty.
Also you might find service interval is 7500 miles rather than 10K on UK model.
Andy.

not sure on the new age, are you buying this from a main dealer or private seller?
If in doubt, speak to a main dealer or an independent specialist (id say the latter).

Certificate of Conformity not needed. Copy of original Subaru invoice from dealer who sold in Holland needed by IM to register for the Dutch warranty.
Service intervals will be different to Subaru UK car as they set their own (longer period) schedules. Stick to Dutch schedule or you'll lose warranty.

Fax the invoice as suggested by Fenman, together with your name and address to: 0121 522 6003 and they will register your Dutch car if it has not already been done.

^ ^ if its a 52 plate, will they still allow this? would have thought registration would have needed to be done when (near) new to qualify for the warrenty?

the sending of the registraion docs is not compulsary when new it just speeds up / eases the process in the event of a claim.
there are also differences in the warranty
subaru uk (IM) buy the cars from subaru japan with a 1 year factory warranty they then supply years 2 & 3 themselves / underwritten by a insurer.
Subaru benelux (holland inc) buy the cars from subaru japan with a 3 year factory warranty. no 3rd parties or cost cutting involved.
all cars leave the factory with no security it is fitted at the country of sale to confirm with the standards required by that country cat1, asc. ect Subaru UK fit a modifeied sigma m30/m32 and wheel nuts when the car arrives here. The dutch dealers fit their alarms as required. if you had a dutch alarm fitted it would be pretty worthless insurance discount in the UK.
underseal. the uk cars have additional underseal when they arrive.
seats, the standard seats here are sports seats on bug eye you did have the option of bucket. in europe the standard was bucket and sports was the option, the sports have additional airbags. the buckets being buckets dont.
so in short
bugger all difference except maybe the seats everything else can be retrofitted with a screwdriver . And i would have the real 3 year warranty any day of the week. its subaru uk that cause the problems with euro warranties not the warranty itself

I don't want to highjack the thread, but could you go into a bit more detail on the alarm. I thought the key-fob blipper that opens the door locks and disables the alarm, then deactivates the immobilser was a common factory install across all markets? Is this the 'Thatcham Cat1' part of the system or is it something else? If the euro imports have the key-fob blipper do they not have the other bits, and would the Thatcham system be recognised in other countries?

It does on a uk one but probably not on euro as when you have a new cat 1 alarm fitted it comes with its own fob. Apparently when alarms are fitted to the UK cars the electronics in the keys are changed to operate the alarm (sigma).
Sigmasam did a post about this sometime ago as I asked a similar question
