Unhappy Help! I can't get my new gear lever in!

I know this isn't in the right part of the forum but this is urgent!

I took the gearstick out of my MY03 WRX so I could fit a shorter one. they both have the same size of ball on the end but I can't get the new one to fit in the socket, even after adding plenty grease and giving it a decent whack with a mallet!

If I can't get it in I'm going to be in deep sh*t tomorrow!

Help and suggestions wanted, cheers

Graham

Don't quote me but as far as I can make out it takes quite a whack to sit the new ball in the socket..... I have one to go in myself but I'm going to get someone to do it for me as it sounds like one of those jobs !

Good Luck

I've hit the b*stard really hard but it doesn't budge. I'm wondering if hitting the ball might pop it in as opposed to hitting the top of the stick?

Graham I'm really not the person to be giving you tech advice on this... let's just hope that someone reads this that can.

Can you locate the old one back in for now ??

I can understand you are in quite a predicament there

Pretty basic really - make sure both the ball joint and socket are well greased and hit the bugger as hard as you can. I remember taking the gear lever out of my MY00 - this was the only way to get it back in. I don't know what else you can do.

I can't get the old one back in. I'm going to try again using an anger filled smash!
