BONNET OPENED AT 110 mph
Any one else had this with a new age sti,it just popped up onto the safety catch. The safety catch did hold but i was a bit surprised.Ive given it a little adjustment now but lost a bit of confidence in it.Also the bonnet movement at speed is also quite alarming JASON

Mine did it on the first week of ownership, only because I didnt check it was secure before driving away.
I always give the bonnet a little pull after closing it now and it's never popped open again. Oh and never slam the bonnet, alway push it shut at the most forward point.

you should always drop the bonnet shut and not push down with your hands using this method will result in palm print dents on the front of the bonnet if pushed to hard especially on scoobys with alluiminum bonnets, when we hand cars over at the pdi centre where i work we always tell customers to drop shut bonnets

I had the bonnet fly open on my classic a while back now, luckly I was travelling at low speeds when the bonnet flew open, The bonnet (aluminium) had creased just by both side vents hinges damaged too but no windscreen damage. Could have been worse.
Found out the next day that my brother had been looking at the engine bay & had not closed the bonnet properly.
That was him banned from having the keys again.

My old T5 went in for a service. I got a phone call from the dealer explaining that the bonnet had come up and i need 2 wings, a bonnet, grill and a catch - fortunatly no windscreen - but it took the **** 5 weeks to get the car done, then it was a different colour, so it went back twice !!!!
still not right - so that was the last straw, it went up for sale. Lost a fortune on the car, but the new owner is happy.

funny you should mention it.....
My bonnet did exactly the same thing at the weekend (WR1). Just pulled off a fairly hariy overtake and as I came back in, heard a thud and noticed the bonnet moving around! Needless to say I pulled over (so looked like a real tw@t to the people I'd just overtaken...) and saw that the bonnet was on the saftey catch. I am positive it was shut properly as I always double check.... bit worrying really.

Coz if it is other makes of car then you will probably find it has something to do with the other cars not having a whacking great scoop on the bonnet trying to act like a wing!

Check that your bonnet release cable is moving freely and that the catch area is clean, greased around the spring and where the 'hook' rubs against the release mechanism bracket. I found that mine was covered in crap (it's nicely positioned to catch road dirt) and had stopped returning to the locked position fully. A couple of pulls on the bonnet and it would pop open becuase it was only sitting on the very tip of hook. A main dealer should check and grease it at every service...

i almost sh*t myself the first time i went in a newage. Over 100 and the bonnet was all over the place and really did think it would let go at any second. My 04 is exactly the same

When the bonnet popped up the last time it was opened was 3 days previous.I always drop the bonnet shut from about a foot in the air.The amount of movement i get on my bonnet is terrable at speed and the thought of it coming up has always been at the back of my mind. Now its at the front of my mind. The next night after the event i adjusted the catch slightly by raising it a bit so if it wasnt quite hooked round properly it will be now.Ive given the bonnet a good yank in the down position and it definatly is properly down so time will tell.Wakes you up when it pops.
