Question How hard is it to fit bonnet release cable ?

My bonnet release cable has snapped and I'm wondering how hard it is to fit a new one. The dealer quoted between an hour and 90 minutes to fit it, which at £75 + VAT per hour seems a little steep for a cable replacement. Is it really that tricky a job ?

I have an MY99 and have already ordered the cable. Luckily, I can lift the bonnet up as it is now only held in place by the lever you have to slide across after pulling the cable release normally. If anyone who has replaced one before can give me some tips on this it would be much appreciated.

Otherwise I shall just have to find out how hard it is for myself this weekend

I had the same thing happen on my last car, an Audi A4. I had it done at a private garage and I think they charged me about £80 all in.

I think it was over an hours labour included in that, the cable was only £18.

Sounds about the right length of time. They are a right git on a MY(( as they have to be threaded through the inner wing

I was hoping that I could just tie the new cable to the old one at the front of the car and then pull the old one out from inside the car, which would pull the new cable through the inner wing at the same time. And then just connect the ends of the cable to the appropriate bits.

Sounds easy when I put it like that. I bet it doesn't work out like that
