STI Version 8?
Sorry if this is a proper dumb *** question but im new to this game, but is the STI Version 8 a JDM import and if so what kinda difference does it make to the insurance, considering ive been quoted £813 for a STI Type UK and £1175 for a UK WRX w/PPP from Privilege.

Homer, there's lots of debate about the correct numbering of STi's, but the general consensus is that the last classic STi was the 6. There wasn't a bugeye one for a while in this country but when we got one it was immediately referred to as the 7. When the shape changed to the current blobeye in 2003 that became the 8, and with the suspension revisions in 2005 the 9. These are unofficial, and hotly contested by Mike Wood of Prodrive, but are what seems to make most sense to most people given that Subaru stopped using the numbering after the classics were replaced.
Privilege are having a laugh with that price on a WRX PPP, they insure mine for £680 which was £100 more than a standard car. If you're struggling with them, try A-Plan (01635 874646) but be sure to ask for their Thatcham office and specifically Rob or Darren.

The advert you're looking at says it has DCCD - which means it must be a JDM car as the only UK car with DCCD is the WR1 and the very latest 2005 model.
BUT - do some research on the seller. In particular have a look at www.lancerregister.com - they do not have a very good over there.

Which is a clue
.
Also, using the numbering method confuses things as UK vs JDM numbers are out of sync. iirc UK is on STi 9 and JDM is on something like STi10 or STi11!
Much more easier to refer to years of manufacture.

Firstly, the lack of availability or perceived lack of spec is NOT down to IM, in fact they are very proactive in trying to get the spec of cars we all want. The specs of the various cars are decided in Japan by FHI based around what they can get homologated in Europe at reasonable cost.
If we are being pedantic about the STi numbering, the 02MY was the first UK STi so that would have been an STi1, 03MY STi2, 04MY STi3, 05MY STi5...........
