2001 WRX vs 2000 turbo
Hi there,
Looking for opinions and advice on the above cars. I'm looking to buy a car for everyday use when I get back to the UK from Dubai. I need the car to be reliable and practical as it will be used all year round for fun, going to work, trips to tesco's, etc.
I admit to prefering the looks of the classic impreza and also hear that the older model is slightly faster in a straight line and has more character. however I also hear that the new car handles slightly better, has better build quality, better brakes and more equipment as standard.
Is there much difference is straight line performance?
The new cars look excellent value for money (I'm assuming the prices are forced down by the 'individual' looks?)
I'll be looking for a UK spec standard car with FSSH.
Thanks.
Martin.

They have the same output engine wise 215bhp, the 2001 model is 150kgs heavier. This means in a straight line the 2001 is slower but the car feel more solid and is stronger.
You can mod both cars to about 280bhp with zorsts and filter and remaps but bhp for bhp the 2001 will always be slower in straight line due to the extra weight.
Both cars have there plus and minus points you need to drive both and see which you prefer.

I've just bought an '01 WR Blue WRX, totally standard for £9,800. It only had 23,500 miles on it when I bought it and is pretty much 'mint' except for a couple of stone chips, light scratches and a hole in the front fog lamp.
I test drove an '01 WRX from the Subaru dealer in Cardiff first and it had 25k miles and they wanted £13,000 for it so I think I did pretty well with mine (bought private).
I agree that the classic looks a bit nicer but I think the new shape looks more aggresive and the handling is absolutely solid, (I can take a corner at 80+ mph that I've never been round at more than 60 before!!). I can't vouch for the classic because I haven't driven one but I don't regret buying mine at all. It's quality.
