Upgrade them to the STI 4 pots off an import classic they are better than the standard classic UK brakes.
You can usually pick some up on ebay for around 300 quid

My mate changed his standard front brakes for a set of Group N discs from TSL motorsport ( www.tsl-motorsport.co.uk ) and Ferodo DS2500 pads, and he says car now stops on a sixpence!! (60mph with 5 people in it!!) I'm gonna do the same with mine, as i have same problem, although i found that even the standard brakes are 100% better just with the ferodo pads....

The 4-pot calipers fit straight on, but you need to fit the 295mm dia disks; I've done the same on mine and it is an improvement.
The one thing I did notice on mine when I first got it was the peddle travel was massive! This can be very easily changed by adjusting the bolts on the bar at the back of the brake peddle. Winding the bar down a bit brings the brake much further up on the peddle, it gives you alot more confidence.

You do have to be careful what wheels you use though because some wheels can foul on the caliper
