Hi all
I had a great day yesterday, next year I will on track!!.
I ran 2 X 6.00 second dead runs on the time trial. I was quite pleased with these as I consider myself a fairly novice driver and I had a full tank of fuel. MY99 with full SS exhaust and ITG filter. The first half second on each run did not show any speed increase though. Does this mean I actually ran 5.50 both times. I hope so.
I was lucky enough to witness a Escort Cossie run 3.73 seconds!! 400bhp though.
See you soon James and Paul.
See everybody else next year.

Had a fantastic time (and we were only spectating!). Convoy down from Brentwood was great fun, even in the fog.

Nice to meet more of you and put even more faces to names.

Guys & Gals on the track sessions - you were great, had everyone in the stand going oooh and aaarh round those bends.

I'm getting our piccies back this afternoon - will scan them in tonight.

I had a brill time too, especially on track session 3. Came down the M6 and M40 to Silverstone AND DIDN'T SEE A SINGLE SCOOB until I was approaching Silversone !

Let us know where the scanned picas are at when they're posted.

Great M1 convoy! Shame about some RS boys acting like muppets. (note restrained language!)

Incidentally, the best 0-60 run I saw was by an escort cosworth... 3.71secs!!!!!!!

just interested in which RS boys where acting like muppets. The track action at national day seemed to be more controlled than that of trax, including the scoobie session.

Red face

we had a great time to, apart from the
weiners who looked like they had some
scores to settle with other SIDC members.
Im sure at the breifing it was mentioned
that no overtaking on bends etc. but some
muppets were intent on driving like loosers!
especially on the third session when you all
got stopped and warned for irratic driving
(only a few to blame, but everyone suffered)
anyway look foward to next TRAX

Craft

The driving standard on track was not what would be tolerated at a club track day, but as far as I know, no member's driving was bad enough to result in a caution from the marshalls.

Rob Mac and I stopped to talk to the marshalls when the red lights came on in the third session, to see if the session would be restarted. The third session was briefly stopped while Stef extracted himself from a gravel trap, not for any other reason.

Dick Grimes had decided that we would allocate the maximum of 40 cars per session, although Stef and I wanted the limit at 30. This made the SIDC sessions by far the biggest group to go out on track. With so many people being on track for their first time, it was inevitable that huge traffic jams would result and some of the more experienced drivers did drive around the outside of less experienced members. I did not hear of any complaints and assume that with Silverstone's massive expanse of track, this was always done safely.

Whilst Rob Mac was there for the same reasons as the rest of us, he was wearing his Silverstone instructors uniform and was willing to help members with their driving. What amazed me is that I was the only person to ask Rob Mac if he would give me some help to learn the track.

As always with these sort of things, if you feel that someone is driving less than courteously (and this includes failing to let faster cars through), speak to a marshall/organiser/SIDC official...

ON THE DAY.

PS This was a great demonstration of why we don't run sessions on SIDC track days. Please come to one. You will enjoy it.

Not correct we were not warned for irratic driving.

Pete - nice to find out that Rob was available AFTER the event, perhaps we could have been told that he was available to SIDC members before the sessions!

Totally enjoyed the day !
As a total beginner I felt that some of the more experienced drivers were perhaps at times not forgiving enough. I was especially hounded in the first session (and forced wide)through the set of corners before the main start finsh line (by a very yellow car)
Yes fair enough the more experienced driver want to get the most out of any and all track time - maybe there should be some kind of split for the drivers - anyone who has never been out on a track should all go in 1 session then we don't get in anyones way - as I obviously did.
In the the 3rd session I did have 2 problems so I was noticebly slower - the intercooler was knocking about the strut brace and my water tem needle went though the roof. (incidentally the needle was going from max hot to normal in the pace of 2 second and then back to max again - is this a dodgy sensor cause the car got me back to London in one piece.)
Sorry to moan on a bit - but all this talk of people getting in our way is a bit dishearting as we all have to start somewhere.

Yosser,

Whether a track novice or veteran, it is understandable that drivers will want to go at different speeds, and why not. I don't think anyone has a problem with other drivers being slower than them. I had a problem with a few things on the day:
1) Some of the slower drivers were not moving over to the right (thanks gregh) on the straights. Whether a newcomer or not, we should all be able to move over if someone behind us is faster.
2) Some drivers were overtaking on the right (possibly as a result of other drivers not moving over, but still potentially dangerous).
3) The fact that there were 40 of us in one session (we wouldn't have all had the opprtunity to go on track if the guys had stuck to 30, so hopefully others will agree and we can book more sessions with fewer cars next year).

As you mentioned, I would definately vote for some kind of split for the drivers. It's not simply a case of some drivers being more experienced than others - these are our own cars that we intend to drive home, and some of us are prepared to take more risks than others (that includes risk of spinning, and risk of damaging tyres/break pads etc).

Still enjoyed the track sessions

Ediited due to stupidity - I knew what I meant

It has come to my attention that I myself along with a few others may have overtaken some of you after the chequered flag had been waved in session 1.
I would like to point out that this was completely unintentional as I genuinely did not see it.
The first red flag I saw was actually half-way round the circuit, and I thought someone had gone off. I was a bit peeved that I cvouldn't do a full cool down lap.
I really must pay more attention.
Apologies to anyone I upset during this.

Stef.

>> Some of the slower drivers were not moving over to the left on the straights

Hey Triggaaar, if you were waiting for them to move to the left, it's no wonder they never did! You were meant to move right and allow overtaking on the left!!

Maybe that's half the problem (unless I've got it wrong!!)

I had a great day. Turn out was fantastic, and good to meet new people.

I don't think any of the more experienced drivers would object to sharing the track with the less experienced. I remember how scary it is when it's your first time, we've all been there: but taking note of track rules/etequette, and actually adhearing to them goes a long way.

I agree that some of the more experienced drivers did bend the rules a little, this was more out of frustration, than being irresponsible. I doubt any were dangerous, but may have seemed dubious to the first timers.

If I upset anyone, I apologize.

Mark.

Exclamation

Just to clarify things a little.

I was not asked to be at Silverstone 'officially' as the Club's instructor as there were only three sessions on track and I could not get around to seeing everyone!!

I was there in a social capacity only and I was wearing my Silverstone shirt as it meant I got in for free!!

I will be at Brands and the yet-to-be-announced Donington days in an official capacity though, so I shall see you all there!

Rob.
