Interesting reading...and I think they do make some good points. The basic new shape wrx isn't really a "sorted" car ( I know I've got one) and a non ppp sti ain't much cop
( I've driven one ). All the go faster bits do cost mucho wonga. Still I like the character of the cars, dunno just like 'em crap bits 'n' all. I wonder if there would be a market for a third car - say standard wrx at 220 bhp, sportier looking step up car at 280bhp firmer suspension seats etc, then a full blown STI twins scroll and doodahs top of the range at around 330 bhp?

OK. I've read it. Sounds like a load of opinions biased to a particular marque of car. Sound familiar?

Funny, if the scooby is so crap, why o why do other cars feel the constant need to compare themselves to it?

Know what i mean.

And all this chav rubbish is becoming like an old record now, I do say if a slightly younger than average person, works hard enough to afford a scoob, of any age, bloody good luck to him.

Another point if you read the entire thread, you will notice that they are laughing at the " 30 year old driver " or " my dad says...", indicating to me most of these posts where written by very young and stupid people, who are probably teenage hoodie "chavs" themselves.

Probably because of the response you get on here. If everyone ignored them, they'd get bored.

LCRs are good value for what they are, different priorities to the scoob, some will suit some people, some will suit others. Things like the 340bhp one will no doubt kill many scoobs when rolling, but then again, I'm sure Andy Forrest, Mark Aigin, David Wallis and all the other big power scoobs would blow most LCRs into the weeds. Doesn't really prove a lot, other than tuned cars can be fast.

I've had a lot of cars, but the Scoob is the only car that I've ever got out of, walked 10 yards, and turned around EVERYTIME to take another look, and smiled
AND, I just love the sound
So they dent if someone farts next to them, so what! That's why we've got 'Dentman'
I think the build quality is quite good TBH. May have an odd rattle here and there, but they've got hard suspension!! They're bound to rattle!!!
I had a wagon last year, then 4 cars in between, now I've got another.

there are some valid points, but your allways going to get a biased opinion on a specific car forum. I personally would never consider a seat leon curpa, ever. The scoobies a hero car, like the evo and the skyline.

And some people simply love to hate a winner

Seat Cupra Leon.
Sorry I did consider one (very briefly) but went the right way and got stuck in - have changed clutch myself and do all regular servicing.
Mates girlfriend got a Cupra - nice car, for a girl.

The Cupra R is one of the cars I like a lot and offer fantastic performance for the money, but being a "30-something dad"-type (then again I have caps and hooded tops, am I "Chav-dad" ), the back seat is not flat enough for a lie-flat baby seat!

Best make do with the Forester then!

Look at the response on here when people say they want an Evo or an M3. No different, just brand loyality. I'm sure there are Ford drivers who would slate both Subarus and Seats, each to their own! (BTW my daily hack is a Ford)

Me, I'm happy with poor fuel economy, tin foil panels, servicing every 5k miles and getting blown away by this hot hatch or that hot hatch.... or have I made sweeping statements without knowing what I'm talking about???

Also if the the bad points with Subarus are fuel economy, running with SUL and frequent servicing intervals, why on earth would you then want an Evo??

Spot on with what you are saying Andy ! I had the cupra R 225 for 18 months nice very nice fuel and all BUT the 54 WRX i now own for the last 6 months what a mover as for traction and power the WRX will win all the time
the seat has got power but when directed to those 18's 225 at the front they just still can't handle all that power, anyway Best £19000 I've spent !

yep same here but altered paragraph

but the Scoob is the only car that I've ever got out of, walked 10 yards, and turned around EVERYTIME to take another look, in case somebody is doing anything
ie, stealing, acting suspicious around it, scratch/spit

sigh, its such a dangerous thing owning a scoob now

Default Cupra net ar53hol3s

In my considered opinion; the points made on the Cupra Net website are:
  • Badly communicated : "just purelly cuase there not practicall for everyday use in my job" [sic]
  • Incorrect: "service intervals at 6K"
  • Biased:"No way! The old UK Turbos are now in the hands of Chav's and the new lardy WRX's look crap and get out paced by Clio 172's."
  • Just plain fookin stupid: "everyone has one everyone wants to nick one"
Personally i wouldn't take advice from any of these people purely for all the reasons outlined above. I think it's a case of jealous Seat drivers buying inferior cars to our Scoobys and trying to make each other feel good about it!

The question is this: If the Seat Cupra is such a great car, how come every second person posting a message on that thread is selling theirs? Are they going to secretly buy Scoobys and convert to Scoobynet?

The post did leave me with one question unanswered: Is the Scooby becoming a Chav/Ned icon? I hope to GOD the answer is no!

Paul

I'm just upset by the comment :

90% of scooby drivers are bald-headed males around 30ish.
I mean, come on, just because I've not got flowing long curly ginger hair like 90% of the Seat Leon owners ....

I personally don’t like the ‘I can’t afford a VW image’ a Seat has. Nothing more than pig ugly cars for tight f@%kers who would buy an Audi TT if they had the pennies…

Eh watch it - I'm 31 and could only just stretch to 4k - mortage, family and sensible car and all that!

What can you get for 4k which puts such a smile on your face (and has room for the kids - so no bikes / Caterhams!)?!

Not really, ure not factoring in insurance, fuel and servicing costs. Scoob running costs are in a different league to your run of the mill hatchback.

Look on the bright side. Our cars could be named after a Frenchman with a big nose, dodgy looking plant and a 12 year old girlfriend
