Default top speed?

im sure its probably been asked before, i did a search but to no avail. anyway whats the highest speed you've attained in your scooby (you could count the dyno sessions but im talking top MOVING speed) say if you have a GPS unit to give a more accurate speed reading

MY03 WRX PPP 137mph (road angel) which was 145mph on the dash. up a slight gradient on the four lane part of the A1 near peterborough on a very quiet road. something started to rattle so i backed off (bleeding hell doesn't the bonnet flex a **** load!)

silver classic my93,got a couple of mods nothing major, top speed 140mph,then the oil light came on,then check engine, then nothing ,slowly cruised to hard shoulder, and that was it DEAD.

luckily wasnt my fault the last job i had done the garage forgot to replace oil pump with a new one,so they fixed it all for free.

i have the standard 16" wheels, so i would not expect the speedo to be that far out.

Cookstar,

152 speedo should equate to 144-145 real mph

My JDM with original tyres/wheels is exactly 10% out to my Angel

Speedo reads 10%+

TBH not sure if this is a conversion problem or not - do JDM's read km or miles as standard??

I know one thing though it isn't restrictd to 112mph, as I found out on a private stretch of road :-)

no idea, but with GPS I expect pretty accurate. It only updates every second so under accel/decel it lags but when doing a constant speed I would imagine it's good. Saying that I can find no figures for it.......

Correct, at constant speed GPS is super accurate. Most speedos at best, read over by 5mph at least. So when u hit 60 on your speedo, ure only actually doing 54-55mph. Gotta luv going past cameras 5-6mph faster than any1 else

Why would redlining in 5th be worse than any other gear,

Anyone know the terminal speed for the box in an 02 WRX. Have been told its about 170. Seems a lot

145Mph, in a STi Ver 3, as said above, solid as a rock and would easily pull to 155-60Mph, pretty pleased as its only got a decat

I've had shade under 160 in my '03 wrx decat and map on a private stretch of road. Was a bit more left to go but ran out of road. Reckon it may have gone off the clock if I hadn't run out of available tarmac. Car seemed perfectly happy. Around 155 in real money? Will try again next time I'm on said private road.

Top Gear is IIRC 24.7mph/1000rpm (that's the quote from subaru website for the 05WRX, anyway). Rev limit is 7400 (?) although usably it's tailing off before 7000. 7.4 * 24.7 = 182. 7000rpm would be ~173mph. Mine (mild mods) hangs on to almost peak power until 280bhp at 6800rpm or 168mph then tails off. I doubt it would get to any of those speeds without a big hill or a strong wind in it's favour, although I could believe it'll do 160 on the speedo.

Terminal speed is 167mph for a classic and a new age wrx, same with the P1.

So then assuming you are actually doing the terminal speed of say 170 (to be average) your speedo would be showing around 185 say, if it did such a thing.

I know mine shows up to 160, not sure if the STI is any different

Sorry to be a bit dim, but how are all these top speeds being achieved ?

The top speed (as quoted by the manual) on MY05 standard WRX, is 144 MPH.

Are all yours modded or what.

Apologies again for being a dimwit, but if someone could explain.............

gunned by the police in ireland 240.6kmh in a WR1-equates to about 148mph-and im serious when i say the car had plenty more to give-didnt see what the speedo was reading, concentrating toooo hard, thats why i ignored the road angel-twice-thought it was a blip

Saw past the 160 mark in a uk classic with various mods, not to sure what that would have actualy be. I also hit the limiter in 5 in my STi Type R v3, not to sure what the speed was, the missus wasnt with me to have a look ...

Shimy.

My comment that ~173 corresponds to 7000rpm in top gear in a new age WRX is mathematically correct, but doesn't necessarilly mean it's being achieved - just that's what the car would in theory do if you got it to 7000rpm in top. I think it might require 300bhp, backwind and a very long straight downhill to actually reach 7000rpm in top in a bugeye. I know people who have found that a very long wind up with 250bhp UK classic gives about 155mph on a road angel as a realistic target

No idea where Tony comes up with his 167 figure for everything? It doesn't seem to bear resemblance to the gear ratios / rev limit (unless your limiter is set around 6800rpm)

For illegal use of theoretical mathematics, or for knowing someone who has been speeding in a 250bhp classic?

Couldnt resist this one.

Driving Mark Aigins Lateral Performance Grey STi5

From a standing start, measured at 1.25 miles, i achieved 189.7mph, and a few hours earlier he recorded 190.1mph.

Yes, thats from a STANDING start, it took just 1.25miles to get to 190mph, and it was still accelerating.

Steven
