Default help with legacy B4

Hi ALL,
Need some help so i thought I would ask the wealth of knowledge available to me.
I am considering going for a subaru that is different.
i have a 95 wrx jap import and fancy a change but would like to stick with a subaru.
It was alan at ASP that got me thinking being a person that likes a wolf in sheeps clothing i thought uummm that could be me
if you see an imprezza you think it will be fast etc.
so i thought of maybe a p1 or an sti type r then i came across a 4 door subaru B4 RSK and an s401 and got quite excited by this car 280 bhp top speed 160+ sti engine twin turbo at this point the hairs on the back of my neck stood up
then 0-60 in 6 secs bad but i thought alan could do his magic in terms of modding it so i went on the prowl to find one.
what i would like to know is are there any uk equivalent legacy 4 doors with the smae spec and will wheels off a wrx fit the b4 aswell as could it be modded to be as quick as a wrx or sti
sorry about the long question folks as you can see im a newbie/virgin to this forum
thx mark

Hi MeshMark,

There are lots of UK owners with varying specs. And yes, a Leggy can be as quick as an STI, it just depends how much money you are willing to throw at it <and no, they are not as easy as Rexes to mod>

Some judicious modding can have them going decently quick

Hi Mark, I've got a 99 GT-B, (the saloon is the B4, the estate is a GT-B). Firstly, the WRX wheels fit straight on to the Legacy (I've done it to mine), and will allow the fitment of 4-pot calipers (the brakes are it's weakest point). Modifying a twin turbo is not that easy, but can be done (most people do simple mods like a H&S exhaust (£400) and a panel filter. The standard performance is generally classed as quite good. My wife has a 04 WRX PPP, and my GT-B has far more power at the top end of the rev scale (the second turbo kicks in at approx 4500-5000rpm, and the car shoots off like a scalded cat at this point). A seat of the pants feeling tells me that in a straight line drag race, the GT-B would win, although the good old Impreza "round the twisties" would definately apply, as the GT-B just can't keep up in these situations (although I am trying to rectify the deficit with new springs and brakes). Also, the interior and build quality is a level above Impreza's that even the latest 2005 machinery cannot match. Try one, forgive it for the flat spot between the two turbos (between 4000-4500rpm), and I'm sure you will love it, I do. My biggest problem is my next car - looks like it will have to be the Jap Spec B (single Twin Scoll Turbo - a la Impreza STi), I just can't bring myself to not have forced induction as the UK Spec B is (and yes, I have had one for 24 hours).

No problem

I think someone over there wants to know similar things to you so read "bring on the teachers" in General There are quite a few twin turbo owners on there that are very helpful

Watch the tyre sizes on the BE/BH era - for example, the S401 has 215/40 18s due to the tight wheel wells. ET55 IIRC too.

Of course, a roll of the fenders (rear first stop, and not just the top, but the front of the arches too) can add some extra rubber room

Hope you join the TT club soon, and enjoy it

There is no UK equivalent for these cars, the only other place the Twin turbos were offered was Oz AFAIK, thats where the best tuning bits come from (along with Japan). Shame, coz this is what the japs are getting now http://legacy.manxforums.com/forums/...&hl=legacy+sti
