Further room for improvement? 1/4mile
*UPDATED - 13th June with weekends RWYB runs @ Santa Pod*
Managed to beat my previous 1/4mile times today. Previous was 12.49@110mph.
Today managed a best of 12.21secs@111.77mph
Wondering if there is further room for improvement?:

To me it looks like there is room for improvement as there is a fair difference between the the first and last terminal speeds. Am thinking that maybe I'm leaving gearchanges to late in the RPM range (changing just before limiter). UK car with std gearing and TD05.
What do the regular 1/4mile experts think?

Yep, use the torque. Shifting that bit earlier could well be faster.
This is where things like an AP22 are invaluable as they display/record the G force and it's instantly obvious if you are hanging on to a gear too long.
Good times Any other quick scoobs there today ?

There was a new record set (euro?). Skyline did 9.3secs@15?mph
Didnt see any quicker scoobs. I'm sure there will be tomorrow. Should qualify comfortably with 12.2secs.
Where would you guess the gearchanges should be? 6k? 6.5k?
Thanks again for helping me sort the problem yesterday. Put your name about to all that asked about the spec.

It will vary from gear to gear as the rpm drops differ.
Shift rpm 7000
RPM drop
In to 2nd 3946
In to 3rd 4911
In to 4th 4981
In to 5th 5315
Shift rpm 6500
RPM drop
In to 2nd 3664
In to 3rd 4560
In to 4th 4625
In to 5th 4935
Your car is pulling hard at 4500rpm and tailing off from 6500 so thats the band I'd aim for.
That basically means maxing out 1st then shifting at 6500 into 3rd and 4th.
Evaluate your gains based on your terminal speed as this is an indication of the averaged power put down. The ET is more a measure of your launch and shift speed.
cheers

I think from what i saw that mine was the 2nd fastest scoob there behind BOB'5, with a 13.3 @ 104.25 so there was a bit of a gap!
I think if you want to get in the 11s though BOB'5 just take some of the interior out and it will do it easy, i shaved 0.4 off mine yesterday just doing that. which would give you a rather handy 11.8
My fastest run comprised:

Bob,5, thats an awesome time, gives me real hope for getting in to the 12's (maybe hi 11's? ) with the 18g.
is it possible to take an 18g down the 1/4 in the 11's on an sti5 box/diff?

Neilo: I spoke to a guy who said he ran a 12.9 in a RA, (not sure if he improved on it), but other than that they were all 13s and 14s. Didnt see too many running tbh. Your time was good enough to qualify for the top 32 cars of the day. My rear seat were already removed (to get to the suspsension adjustment), but as I was so close to getting 12.1 I have taken out the passenger seat also in an attempt to acheive it. And also as its a competition, you need to do what you can for a competitve advantage.
Hopefully there wil be some better times today by scoobs. I know Mikee is going and he ran a 11.5 at SSO.
Andy (Peanuts): Not sure as every car is different. I would guess that it should in theory be possible. If I was to upgrade to a 18g or 20g I would expect to at least to shave off the 0.22secs required (to break 11s) off the 16g time. You can make or loose 0.2 depending on surface. Never run on an airfield so cant say what the diff would be. Wheels do light up quite easy at Shakespeare and Santa Pod.
Chugster: Not sure. This is a white R32 driven by the same bloke. Its the new Euro 4WD record.
Just about to head out to the raceway again. Its wet and raining, so not sure if they'll be running. With any luck if they do run, I hope it pisses it down on the Top32 elimination rounds
Will update on my return.

On my engine (Gtir not scooby) max power is at about 6200rpm. I've tried short shifting at York before and on 2 identical runs, changing 500rpm earlier cost me 0.2 seconds. Which is a long time on the drag strip.
My fastest run yesterday was a 12.71s at 107.34 (1.755 60ft) with only 246bhp.

shift speed will directly affect the terminal speed, not just the ET.
you should shift after peak power most often, as there will usually be more power a little after peak power than at the RPM when you change into the next gear. On an engine with a smallish turbo and a plateau of power, then changing very late is counter productive as Andy points out.
That is the one of the best times on a turbo of that size. In the UK only Andy.F and Steven Darley have bettered it with an equivalent setup.
18g will do 11s on a UK car IMHO.

Today started late due to rain. The queues were long and the track was v sticky.
Couldn't get the wheels to spin enough off the line so couldn't muster the 60ft times of yesterday and kept bogging down. The long waits didnt help with a tmic.

Well done to Mikee and Flat4 who both ran some good times. Flat4 got a 12.5 (from memory) and Mikee was in the 11s
Another great day, although the organisation was a little disapointing. The top 32 eliminations rounds ended up being against whoever was in the next lane to you. I was next to Keiths' Skyline (who won the Comp and ran another 9.3), but I sneakily moved only to come up against Mikee (doh!).
Was really hoping to get a 12.1 or better today but it wasnt to be. Yesterday it was launching spot on but today it was very sticky.
Changing earlier (thanks AndyF) appeared to help the terminals. 2nd to 3rd gear was tricky as it goes rather quickly but 3rd to 4th I was able to pick a change point and stick to it. I think its a bit of trial and error to perfect it. Next time on the dragstrip I will make notes on the back of each timeslip for better analysis.
The gearbox lives to fight another day.

Hi Mr Scooby-Si
You were asking about how the Toyo R888 performed on track. Well I put them through about 25 Laps at Croft about 75 track miles yesterday and was quite impressed. They have a nice soft compound and beared up very well.
I will put some pics up later - plenty of life in them which I am very happy about. Obviously being a cut road legal slick they wont give the levels of grip from a pure racing slick tyre.
But I was very happy with them and they may be suitable for your purposes.

thanks m8ee ive still got my feelers out for some could you wheel sping then easy if you tried??
back on subject, unlucky bob did you not try lifting the revs more on the start m8 or was it limited runs due the it being the last day?? n ot enought time to sort anything out?? but going of the times yesterday was hoping you would do 12.1 next time
#22
It just really happen today mate. There was v limited time available for the runs due to a tight schedule and rain making it even tighter. Not sure about revs on the line as I didnt really look as I was trying to master the lights for the elimination comp. On a quiter day I would raised the revs to try and provoke wheelspin. Am fairly confident that a 12.1 and possibly a 12.0 will come on this spec. It does make we wonder what the same setup but on a RA would achieve.
Might have to import some Scottimax if I fail next time A uk car with a td05 and other bolt ons in the 11s...now theres a thought

was a good day, the more i think about it, the more im pleased with my result 12.5 with 1.3bar on Esso Supreme, full interior (no spare & jack) shame i missed 3rd gear in my eliminator round - was neck & neck with the abbey skyline up until then

How much did you gain on reaction time? You never know.
Looked at mine v Mikee slips and I would only have needed to get a 12.40 or better to cross the line 1st in the head to head. I still got beat though, by the better man.
I'm running Optimax + a dose of NF. It's my everyday map and dont have the ability to make race day changes to ignition/boost. I think I would get carried away chasing a couple of tenths down if I did and might not be driving the car home.
I think theres more to come from yours still too.

, mine was also a MY00 Wagon with 215/35/18 wheels and tyres . From memory, the MY00's didnt come with a TD05, and TD05 was supposed to be on a par to the turbo i had, and i also believe the oem ecu is remapable like the link
Nice times Bob.
