Id sooner spend £750 with Andy Forrest; supplied, fitted and mapped. He is a regular contributor here as Andy.F I dont know him personally, but if you ask about him Im sure youll only hear positive remarks.

If you order one and fit it yourself it will only have a basic base map in it to get you up and running, they aren't really intended to be run on the base map permanently.

Much better to take a trip across to see Andy.F and get it fitted/mapped by him. Just use octane booster and get a knocklink until then.

Enjoy the car.

I'm in agreement with all of the above.

The Power FC is a good investment. But really does need mapping from the start.

Optimax + booster still wasn't enough to prevent engine-threatening detonation on the standard map.

Got mine fitted and mapped by Andy. Got to admit, it's the best cash I've spent on my scoob. The difference in driveability and better fuel consumption was amazing considering the limited mods at the time.

remember a mappable ECU is only as good as the map that it runs, i used Andy F for the map on my last car and will be using him for the mapping on my new one (also v4 type r).
in my opinion Andy is without doubt the best subaru/apexi mapper in the uk and i have tried others before going to Andy.

do a search on apexi mapping and you will see Andy recommended again and again

its your choice, i am just trying to steer you in the right direction!

better off spending £200 on a map than £1500 on a rebuild.

then again you are irish

was wondering how long it would take for a paddy joke to be cracked! i wont get started on the english just yet ..ive emailed him anyway to see what way he works it..3 of my friends have wrx, sti, and type RA, and none of them h ve ecu mods, all they use is 95 with ob and one doesnt even use ob and they have had no probs so far, and theyve had them over a year, so its hard to know what to do! i never really thought about ecu upgrades until i joined this site!

ROAD TRIP !

Id ring the ferry companies and get a timetable; after all the governments bent you over the desk on import and registration taxes: another couple of hundred wont break the bank will it?

yeah i see that, i know its worth paying 200 or 300 extra if its going to be done top quality, and im not 100% sure of any lads over here that can guarantee that ya know?
il see how much andy f can sort it out for, might have to get one of my friends with their imprezas to get it done aswell to cut costs a little bit..none of my friends with scoobs have it done but sure il be the first i reckon!
hopefully a good investment, anyway, picking the type r up tuesday so il bang up a few pics for yis!

As a test i have run my sti v3 on the power fc base map with optimax and millers ob, and the knock reading does not go above 15, even on the graph mode it is very consistent. the base map seems to be better than the factory ecu and slightly better on fuel. The car is getting remapped by andy on the 22nd of june will let you know of the results.

No excuse now!

Seriously it does make a big difference having an expert map your car, as opposed to someone who can map a car adequately.

Make sure you let us know how you get on.
