Question

Okay, thanks for all the replys to the SS backbox vs warranty question I posted earlier.

Now this may be an old topic (I've done a few searches), but I'll risk the yawns by asking anyway...

Car: UK std MY00 turbo with no mods. (yet)
Required: New exhaust back box.

What do I want?
- quality unit
- better performance
- SUBTLE yet deeper sound
- good looks
- reasonable price (£300 tops)

What DON'T I want?
- Max Power / boy racer image
- LOUD 'look at me' sound track
- ridiculously big pipe diameter

Choices?
- Scoobysport, Magnex, WR Sport, Blitz, HKS SuperDrager ( ) etc, etc, etc etc.

Anyone care to recommend (based on my wish list)?

Ta

I was in the same position and went for the SS back box. If you want SUBTLE rule out the dustbins etc, I found the SS a little quiet, but not after I fitted the cat bypass mid section!!

Each to their own and all that

Cool

Installed a Magnex BB today on a friends MY98, great stuff...myself I've got a full SS job.
The Magnex sounded deeper than the SS, but the SS delivers more rally like burble.
It's a matter of yer own preferences.

The Magnex seems to be a lot of bang for the buck.
If money, or rally car sound, is no problem - go for SS, on a budget, and with a sensitive wifey - Magnex.

Both have similar looks, 3.5" tailpipe, which gives a clean "sober" look.

The hks super dragger is fairly quiet, but has a large & lary looking exit pipe, i would say the SS one based on your requirements, plus i've heard of pete making them quieter if the customer requires it.

Thumbs up

I've got the Magnex 3.5" round pipe backbox fitted. Had it on the car since July - very pleased with it. Very similar in quality and size / fit to the SS version. Really comes down to what sound you want and how much you want to pay (Magnex was around £200).

I've got a SS one on my MY00 and it sounds so good I even turn the stereo off to hear it, sounds like a rally car, it seems to have gone a bit quieter but that could be me getting used to it or the sound deadening sooting up. Best thing go to a meet ie NM4 and have a listen I'm sure all the boxes available will be there. I will.

Exclamation

Now I don't want you all to shout at me for saying this but it has to be said!

What Exhausts do people who have cars in Max Power put on there cars it isn't tin pipes. If you don't want a Max Power look then you best stop modding your cars because that's all people like that want to do. The only difference between them and you is that you have a big fast car that looks good to start with, and thats all they want to achive, now you must know what that is like or you wouldn't be changing your exhaust

Ok I'll agree you do get some ****** in Novas and stuff driving like ***** but then I've seen a nova BEAT a modded scooby down Santa Pod on the 1/4 mile strip... it ran low 10's.

Just remember we all have to start somewhere and chances are those people you call Max Power, boy racers will be driving subarus soon and you won't be slagging them off then.

Max Power isn't the best car mag out there, got to admit but it give's young people somewhere to start, and I bet half of you buy it anyway, or you wouldn't know what it was like.....

Oh and as for the original question SS I've read nothing but great reviews about it on here...

And thats all I have to say about that!!!!

Smile

On the last night's Simpsons, (OK it's an old one I've seen before) Homer changed his name to Max Power. Because it was cool and dynamic!

On topic, the SS is very popular at meetings I've been to and you can find pictures on how to fit it DIY. Do a search on username PaulL. He did post pictures of the operation, but they seem to be no longer available.

Longun

Didn't mean to slag anyone off.
Hope you're not too offended!

I'm sure there are plenty of perfectly respectable folk amongst the Max Power readership.

Do I have to buy a baseball cap to go with my new exhaust then?

Thanks for putting something nice I was expecting to be slagged off..

No need to apologise you didn't offend me as such I just think sometime's people can be a bit judgemental towards certain type of people when some of them don't really deserve it...

And yes you do need a baseball hat and some 15 year old girls in the back then your well on your way!!!!!

Good luck with choosing an exhaust but it does seem that everyone is saying SS....
