Question Want to DeTango STI but I'm chicken ...HELP !!

HELP PLEASE !!

I'd love to get my 03 STI de tango'd and preferably do the full black light thing but am way to clumsy and chicken to try it.

Anyone anywhere remotely near the midlands prepared to offer their (experienced please !!) services in exchange for beer tokens or whatever ?? !!

Yours in desperation...

I'm doing Foxmod's next week (26th, 3pm) and he's coming up to Leeds from Nottingham for it and coming along to our WYIOC meet afterwards. Join him for the day and I'll do it for £30. Don't want to get involved in the black spraying bit though.

Thank you for your kind offer !! May well take you up on that

I would really prefer to get the black thing sorted, but if no-one can help then I will settle for a de-tango !!

Any black headlight volunteers out there ????

I'd guess the spraying bit will be quite easy. It's just the reflector trim which is removed whilst detango-ing anyway. I'd guess a quick coat of matt primer, then a layer of whatever topcoat you want. I believe the black ones done so far have been done matt anyway, I think ? Not had anything to do with tins of Carplan (or whatever make is popular now) for many years, hence my apprehension. We could give it a go I suppose

Found Jons' instructions HERE. Seems easy enough. Scotchbrite off chrome, degrease, plastic primer, matt black exhaust paint.

£50

Cool !!

If you're confident of a successfull result, then lets get it on

26th is a Thursday... you got that right ???

Please drop me a mail to dave@fhwarden.co.uk and we can get things arranged without boring the good people of scoobynet with the finer details.

Regards

Hi Dave, tried to de-tango my 04 WRX yesterday and melted my headlight, so if you are not confident in doing it, I would leave it to someone else, as I have just paid £186 for a new drivers side headlight.

Dave your not to far from me Im in Walsall so if you want to take up corradoboys offer Im willing to drive up there you can get a lift with me and just bring your headlights with you.

It was your post that finally put the nail in the coffin of me thinking I'll have a go myself !!

Is £186 for a new headlight from SUBARU ?? That seems aweful cheap, my old FTO headlights were circa £700 a pop from Mitsubishi

Re going up north... I'm confused as hell now , I thought corradoboy was doing mine and Foxmods.....are you tagging along also ??

In fairness I've got to be back for a poker game so unless you are thinking of coming straight back I'll probably have to pass

Darn this is getting complicated and I'm off for some wine now to make it worse

Just to complicate matters further, does anyone have any photos of the black out mod?

At £50, I may also be interested Plus I'm only in Hull

The light is from Subaru, I thought the crystal ones on the classic were expensive at £150.

Also about going up North, I wont be able to go on a Thursday as im really busy at work, but ive asked Corradoboy if he would be able to do it on a weekend some time,

Anyway good luck with your de-tangoing.

Dave, it's you and Foxmod next thurs Scoobyboy is from your neck of the woods, and it would have made sense to combine your drives up, but it is not convenient. I suggested him maybe contacting you to see if you would bring his lights along with you If you really need to be back early next week you could come a bit sooner if you like. Means I'll have to get up a bit earlier to polish mine for the meet

Right, everything is clear now......
I'll see you Thursday at maybe 2pm instead of 3pm if thats OK.

If Scoobyboy wants me to take his headlights up, thats fine with me

Dave Hughes.

Looks really cool in the pics, I'm so torn between this and a straight detango.

Love to see one in the flesh.

I was going to offer to help, but seeing you've sorted it with cb i keep the skin on my fingers

EF, now i've seen yours blacked up i very tempted to do mine!! I've got a similiar grill to you but a colour coded splitter and can't decide of the black would look out of place. Can anyone do a photoshop??
