New to the UK!
Hello,
I just arrived from the United States with my 2004 WRX STI and wondered if folks could offer some help...
I have to pass it thru the UK's SVA test that requires a rear fog light and switch. Since my search showed many folks getting Japanese import Subarus they seem to be in a similar situation. Do folks have an internet parts supplier rather than the local Subaru dealership for the interior switch and rear light housings? (My US market car does not have a fog light...all brake lights in the rear.)
Also, are there track days available for the Subarus such as road course and/or slalom (we call it autocross-parking lot full of cones)? I'm located near Cambridge.
I also have a trip planned to Nurburgring in June for a my once in a lifetime visit to the facility! Incredible how close the rest of Europe is!
Lastly, does the UK STI's have a speed limiter/govenor?
Thanks a ton and happy to be here.
Tim

Hi Tim and welcome to Scoobynet,
I cannot beleive that your car does not have foglights, not sure about fitment but I'm sure one of the others will put you right on that, I live in Bedford about 20 miles from Cambridge and we have regular meets look under the Southern section either look for a Cambridge meet or Beds/ Herts&Bucks meet we normally meet once a month.
Cheers
Colin

Excellent...I will keep an eye out for the get togethers. Do you folks do competitive events (for fun of course)? I was fortunate enough to be able to hit a dragstrip, roadcourse, or autocross nearly every 3 weeks in the states. I've got to get my fix!
Thanks!
Tim
Thanks!

Hi Tim
I suggest you approach one of the many companies who import and SVA cars, fog lamp fitting is a simple and common procedure. I have a Japanese import STI which has had a fog lamp fitted into the rear light cluster, it's totally invisible unless it's switched on. It was done by www.litimports.co.uk from whom I bought the car, and they should be able to advise you on any other modifications that are needed. Ask nicely and they might be able to handle everything for you for a modest fee.
Best of luck
Andy.

Hope that helps,

P.s. The dash switch MUST light up to pass the SVA.

I was hoping to make the fog light permanent or atleast a clean install. I had the opportunity to check out a UK STI on the dealership floor they other day, noticed your bottom outside brake light area has a foglight on the right and the left is blanked off (no socket) as well as the rear fog light switch on the panel. I hoped to either swap the rear assemblies (too expensive) and wire the factory switch in (the switch itself was rather expensive too! ~75 pounds)
I was a bit concerned on the HID headlights as well, but a reaim might be all that is necessary. Does the front parking lights have to be white? Mine are amber-was hoping a bulb change would have solved that, but the amber lense is inside the light!
I will look into the importers for some help...appreciate the information!
Tim
And what is up with this weather...I have to wash it nearly every day to keep it clean! Didn't have to do that in Nebraska!!!

Basically a rear fog light unit (i just bought one for £5) a dash mounted switch (£1+ depending how you want it to look) and a length of cable. Its very basic wiring to connect it all up, Battery positive to the switch (in-line fuse preferred) switch to fog light positive, fog light negative to earth/ground. The light should come with comprehensive instructions anyway if your not sure of wiring.
Hope that helps,
Tony.

You can have the foglight fitted into the space in the rear clusters like i have on my MY03 JDM STi, you just need someone competent to do it, but speak to the guys in the southern area, they should be able to point you in the right direction
