UK WRX STi??

UK WRX STi??
Hello everybody!!
I'm new to this forum so please bear with me.
I have recently been looking at getting a Scooby and came across an advert for a "1997 Subaru Impreza Turbo 2000 WRX STi Spec" The dealer says it is a UK car, but I was under the impression that the WRX STi was an import only model in 97. All the insuranec companies that I have tried to get quotes from say that is the case at least.
Can anybody shed any light on this for me? Is it likely to be a UK Turbo 2000 with the STi badge on it? What would the performance be like, anybody know? I'm confused!
Thanks for your help,
RiX.

The car in question is indeed silver and it is at a dealer near Welwyn.
Are we talking about the same car?
I have just been checking insurance quotes and the UK Turbo 2000 is nearly £400 cheaper than an imported WRX STi, but I think if I was going to swap from my 220PS JDM Integra Type R I would probably want the STi. Pity because I think that Scooby looks really good.
I could ask for more details as Meridian suggested (hello Meridian!), but he seemed a bit shirty when I emailed him aksing if it was a UK car so I doubt I would get a response.
Thanks for your help guys!

The dealer sounds like a real ****. You're entitled to know exactly what the car is, the validity of your insurance depends on it. The real sti comes with 276 bhp as standard. If you're still interested in the car- and I wouldn't be, given his attitude- then you can check the model code with a list on the SIDC FAQ for a definitive answer.
