I've got a new toy!!
Hi to all, I'm new to this forum! Thought I'd better join seen as I've just picked up my new toy - V5 STi. (links for 2 pics at the bottom)
Made up with the car, goes really well and sounds the Dogs Dangly's!!!
I'm coming from the world of Integrale's which I love to bits, thought I'd try a Scooby though to see what all the fuss is about!!
Anyone got any tips for me or things to watch out for?? All comments appreciated.
Its done 42k miles on 1999. HKS full system inc downpipe I think. Silly dump valve that I don't want!! And a HKS boost gauge. And its got AP 4pots on it too. Other than that I think its standard!! Can't see that it's had a cam belt done in the history so I think that's first on the list.
What oil should I be using in it and how often does it need changing??
Thanks in advance,
Matt

A knocklink is a simple device that 'listens' for pre-detonation which is something modded scoobys can suffer from especially if used on track. The link has little lights that illuminate if there is knock and if they do you should ease off and address the problem by improving cooling or fuel quality, etc. Any modded scooby should have a knocklink and boost gauge to allow you to monitor things.
Always run it on optimax and if its not been done already I'd get a remap for 97/98ron fuel because the V5 sti was designed around 100ron jap fuel.

Ahhhhh...... I see. Well I'd better get one then as I will be doing plenty of track time in it!!! Its got a HKS boost gauge fitted and it's holding around 1.1Bar after peaking at 1.4 on initial boost. Is this normal or has it been tweaked?
Oh yeah, how much are these engine saving gadgets??

Can't remember - less than £100 I'd say for the knocklink and the sensor for it. Do a search on scoobynet and you'll find plenty of info.
Remember and budget for tyres and brake pads when you are doing track days as the scooby will eat them pretty quick.

Wheels won't be gold for long I can assure you. They look good on the blue cars but not these ones!! They aren't the best wheels in the world, but hey they go round and round!!
As for brakes and pads and tyres, I know only too well, which os why I'll be using slicks me thinks and my mate gets the AP pads and Rotors at a good price for me wgivh helps!!
Looking forward to seeing what it can do on the track.
Thanks for all the advice guys, but one last query, what oil should I be putting in??

Knocklink and sensor are about £150 from http://www.brdevelopments.com unless there's a Scoobynet group buy running, in which case you might be able to get £25 knocked off. Worth their weight in gold for a Jap/tuned scooby.
Good move replacing the dump valve for an OE one, my STI5 was running like a bag of $hit with a Bailey VTA dump valve fitted. Here's the list of bits you'll need to get, it's the same as is fitted to a P1 so the bits are available from any UK Subaru dealer.
14471AA052 - Dump valve
21896AA050 - Gasket (between d/v and intercooler)
99071AA781 - vacuum hose (the thin one)
22310AB751 - return hose (the fat one)
Here are some more details if you're interested:
