Question Wheel bearing gone - What £££

Hmmmm.

Supatyres advise me that front driverside wheel bearing worn.
They don't want to do the work - apparently they've neve done the work on a Scooby before. I'd have thought it was a pretty standard job ??

Anyone got any idea how much I'm looking at if I take it to a subaru dealership to do ?

I did mine the other week, do a search for posts by me for a look.

The wheel bearing kit (bearing, oil seals, hub nut) cost me £32 inc vat from Mill Auto.

I would say 2 hours labour max to change it, maybe less but mine was stuck. Involved, undoing hub nut, suspension bottom mounts and two other nuts. One below the hub and the other one on the steering part.

That leaves you with the hub free, press or hit out the hub axle and replace oil seals and bearing then reassemble.

I seem to recall that the standard Subaru part was around the £80-£90 mark, but £300 does seem very steep, I hope it included fitting

Yes it was a rough quote for fitting a rear - thing is it is a front that has gone and they need to find a price for that. My guess is it ain't gonna come in much cheaper !!

Anyone got any recommendations for local garages (Hertfordshire) that aren't gotta rip the pi55.

I thought mine was getting noisy so phoned the Dealer for a quote. Were about £60 each for a MY99 UK car. Add labour onto this and £300 sounds more like replacing all 4.

Go and see Len at Subaru4you - he's done mine before and he's got all the tools (a bloody big hammer!)
