r and ra have the same running gear as each other the ra is 40 kg lighter the r is quoted as having a 0-60 4.3 secs and you still get air con and electric windows you cant get a type r on a N PLATE they started in 1997 so ra should be cheeper to buy

I have an Sti Ra and mine has electric windows, aircon. The lads are correct in saying that most do not have electric windows. If you are looking for a car that has mind blowing pick up through the gears and maybe not using as a motorway car too often there is nothing to beat the Sti RA in my opinion for a pure grin factor. I absolutely love them.
If you want an everyday motorway car that will give you an equal smile but intend sending a few more quid, the type R is the one. I have driven both and they are equally as good but maybe in different ways.
I looked at both before buying and I was just drawn that bit more to the RA for some reason. Thats just me and as I only drive it mainly at the weekends, practicality went out the window.
As I said it depends on what sort of driving you do as both are excellent cars and both have DCCD..wohoooooooooo
