sorry to hear mate, you wont be the last either.i spoke to a good friend who works at a garage and he has rebuilt 9 this year. but the good news is. is that all the air maf sensors where faulty on all 9.its difficult to find a person thats had a scoob for more than 3 years without it blowing.mine went in the first year.everyone i know that drives a scoob "6" in all have all had engine rebuilds.the bugeye and blob eye seem to be holding up well.look around prices can vary hugely on rebuilds.

Ohh I dunno Thomo, I know 7 Scoobies at work all classics ( and 1 new age 03 ) and none have blown up engines yet, despite some of these being driven rather hard often and have done over 110,000 to 130,000 miles!
From the local Scooby fraternity, only 1 of maybe 15 cars had gone pop, and that was something funny done before he bought it, since then been fine with new motor. Most of these are modded to some extent ( usual air filters/induction, exhausts, upto new turbos & injectors and FMIC etc. )
So Scooby motors are not made of chocolate, just need a little care - right fuel grade, right oil type and appropriate servicing, and the usual warm up and warm down attention... they should go for some while!
Also sort out the ECU map after major mods!!
