Default Adivce for on Bying an STI for a newbie?

Hey,

This is my first post and im loking for advice already!

At the momement im looking at a T plate STI Version 5 type R with 43k on the clock....The price is £14k, and if i go for it subaru are gona stick a new gear box in her for me. The car will also come with a years subaru proven warrenty.

Does this sound like a good price?
And is there any problems i should be aware of with the Version 5 type R?

Any advice would be greatly appreaciated!

Thanks

you can buy a P1 for that mate. Theres a really nice one on here for sale

i personally think 14k is too steep.

Shop around a little, prices have dropped big time.

I didn't think Subaru dealers sold imports, let alone stick an official Subaru warrenty on it?

BTW, they're asking way too much!

just read that again and that sound realy strange to me, cos if subaru are selling this car they are selling it ilegaly cos a main dealer cant sell imports and they are selling it knowing its got a wanked gear box.

come on, lets just stick to giving him an insight into the prices before introducing our cars to him.

But Nino, ill give u an example. Someone off here once sold a mint T reg type R. Absolutely stunning, not even a scratch on the car which i actually seen. It sold for 10k so you can see where some of us are coming from. Regarding speedys Version 6 since hes mentioned it, do have a look at it.

Laffin,

Ive driven the car it went well, the only problem that i was told (Like dealers always tell the truth!) was that the gearbox made a noise when you put it in fifth, which it did...

...Its deffinatly an import

Synchros are a MF, u can get the gear box reconditioned but would cost just as much to get a seperate reconned gearbox.

Btw speedy, i have just seen ure car in for sale section and have to admit, its absolute lush. Versy hard to find a black Type R especially that late in reg.

I have a sti version 5 Wagon in black. Dont wana let go of her as i just love it to bits.

Subaru are gona fix the gearbox for nothing before they sell it,

How could i tell if its a Version 5 V-Ltd as aposed to a version 5? If there is such a thing!

And whats the difference?

Never had a type r matey, but i think they are the same but dont quote me although i have seen certain type rs with roof vents.

Also, if you can get hold of a Version 6 for 3 grand cheaper, I think ure saving ure self 3 grand and ending up with a newer more better looking car (as it is black) rather than spending like 4 grand extra just for a gearbox, metaphorically speaking.

I guess u need to shop around matey, u are getting ripped at that price
