Local Shell garage (Chippenham) ran out last week and I had to creep along and buy some (for the first and last time) from one near Bath at 93.9p per litre (£4.27 a gallon).

That's half the price of water at motorway services, which is the biggest rip off?

stop buying optimax!! If people stopped buying it for a while - shell might stop taking the p!ss out of you all.... Buy some other super-unleaded instead for a while.... you might even find that there isn't a difference.

you can just imagine the brand name meeting for it - "Right then chaps, we're going to charge a fookin fortune for this petrol.... what shell we call it?

I see your point but Shell Optimax is cheaper than Esso Super and BP Ultimate around my way!

91.9 on the A1 yesterday, filled it with normal unleaded at 86.9, still a rip off.

I'll be refilling with Sainsburys S/UL or normal UL today, I refuse to pay the current inflated prices for Esso and Optimax.

run my WR1 on sainsbury's super and it aint blown up yet!
I will try some optimax again sometime just to convince myself I'm not missing anything - apart from getting stiffed by the tossers at shell that is!

i wouldn't dream of running it on normal u/l, but I reckon that there can't be much between the various varieties of super - at least not for an unmodified engine.

At the end of the day, Prodrive "recommend" running it on Super Unleaded (not specifically optimax). I use super unleaded, if the engine goes **** up, then IM can fix it under warranty.

89.9 round my way was paying 82.9 up to last week

they make a big fuss about petrol when price drops but no one mentions a thing when it creeps back up to what it was

petrol+britain = ripoff
