got follwed on my way home last night
last nigth i got follwed on the way home at 23;30.
so went around the island 3 or 4 times. Then back the way i came from still follwing me so went slow 15mhp still there.went round the block still there so booted it up the B5000 to go to plod shop. no one's getting my car or to no wich house the P1's at. i spotted a T5 so cut him up and stopped we then get the other car stop and its C.I.D. wot the **** are you doing follwing me like that we have a heated chat. thay say my car may have of been nicked so follwed me so after 3 laps of the island he could of put the blue lights on. but no think he wanted to race a scooby but in a vectra 1.6 in the wet i think not.
and thay still never asked my name or address so the car may still have been stolen.

hang on hang on..... you don't know they hadn't radio'd for a marked car to stop the Scoob..... I mean, would you have stopped for a blue Vauxhall Vectra flashing its headlamps when you've already been spooked??? I bloody wouldn't!

This has never happened to me thankfully but friend in the force advised me to not even get out of my car until police officers approach and identify themselves at the window, leave the engine running, there has been plenty of reports of bogus cars with false blue lights (I saw one once) etc and it aint difficult to get a police officers uniform. Stop in very busy well lit area or by a police station if possible. Garages are good too, always have CCTV!
You did everything right mate, except if it was me I would be asking senior officers why this intimidatory behaviour was allowed at all.

Would you be obliged to stop the car if an unmarked car was flashing you over?

There's obviously the offence of failing to stop, but you could possibly have the mitigation of not believing that the car actually was a police car iyswim.

have a go
The only answer I can give is that each occasion would obviously have to be judged on its own merits, as you say - there are no hard-fast rules.

Got followed ages ago about 2mile from where I live, when all you heard on the news was people having there cars stolen at gunpoint, I noticed a Vauxhall Astra following me for ages, so drove round in a circle to be sure and they kept following, Just as I was to unleash the power of my beast,The blue flashing lights came on under the grill, I explained to him that I thought that they were car jackers, and he said to me "do we look like car jackers" and asked me why I was 2mile from my home, Didnt think it was a crime to drive out of my home area.

Neil,
your reputation obviously precedes you
Funnily enough i was followed by (marked) plod on Monday morning as i drove along Marlborough Way (he pulled out of the usual vantage/parking place). Then the blues came on at the roundabout on the Glascote Road
No need to worry though, as he flew by and pulled some chappy in a Mondeo (not speeding) - obviously an ANPR trap.
Touch wood, i have found local plod very good, helpful and supportive (e.g. they warned us this week of a spate of breakins at night near our office). Shame that the CID chaps have to spoil the image

ive had exactly that happen to me, i was on my motorbike though, i cut infront of an unmarked car, he starts flashing beeping etc, i slow down turn round call him a w4nker & make tracks, he chases after me flashing beeping etc, i cut though petrol station over kerb etc to get away, he chases i pull over turn round wait for him to get out of car, he walks over to me goes to get something out of his pocket i speed off again, he gets back in car to give chase, goes on for a couple more minutes, i then stop run up to him to confront this loon, he undoes window pulls out the warrant card ooops

I was advised (as a woman) by a policeman, never stop for an unmarked car and drive straight to a police station and they won't do you. Doesn't help you blokes I'm afraid. But there is no way I am stoping for a couple of blue lights. Interestingly I saw a Golf R32 with a couple of blue lights in the grill. Flashed me out of the way on the motorway.....git!
