Not appropriate conduct from the plod. If they are suspicious they should identify themselves immediately and pull you over. They should know better than to behave in the above fashion given that they are acutely aware of how popular Scoobies are wth the scum!

hang on hang on..... you don't know they hadn't radio'd for a marked car to stop the Scoob..... I mean, would you have stopped for a blue Vauxhall Vectra flashing its headlamps when you've already been spooked??? I bloody wouldn't!

I'd imagine they do, probably one of those single ones that can be attached and removed from the roof as and when circumstances require. If not, how about calling in a patrol car?

Did a stint on NYPD and most of their CID cars have blues fitted to them although not very often used , radios which i was upgrading hardly used either.

Ripon has three scoobs two marked and a brand new STI unmarked , all with PPP

Question

This has never happened to me thankfully but friend in the force advised me to not even get out of my car until police officers approach and identify themselves at the window, leave the engine running, there has been plenty of reports of bogus cars with false blue lights (I saw one once) etc and it aint difficult to get a police officers uniform. Stop in very busy well lit area or by a police station if possible. Garages are good too, always have CCTV!

You did everything right mate, except if it was me I would be asking senior officers why this intimidatory behaviour was allowed at all.

What is the official line on this? It does concern me somewhat how easy (and cheap) it is to fit blue lights and relays to imitate a police car.

Would you be obliged to stop the car if an unmarked car was flashing you over?

There's obviously the offence of failing to stop, but you could possibly have the mitigation of not believing that the car actually was a police car iyswim.

Also what if they dont have any blue lights on and you speed away...

I've had to do this in the past when being followed. Always wondered 'what if' they were indeed police.

have a go

The only answer I can give is that each occasion would obviously have to be judged on its own merits, as you say - there are no hard-fast rules.

Got followed ages ago about 2mile from where I live, when all you heard on the news was people having there cars stolen at gunpoint, I noticed a Vauxhall Astra following me for ages, so drove round in a circle to be sure and they kept following, Just as I was to unleash the power of my beast,The blue flashing lights came on under the grill, I explained to him that I thought that they were car jackers, and he said to me "do we look like car jackers" and asked me why I was 2mile from my home, Didnt think it was a crime to drive out of my home area.

Neil,

your reputation obviously precedes you

Funnily enough i was followed by (marked) plod on Monday morning as i drove along Marlborough Way (he pulled out of the usual vantage/parking place). Then the blues came on at the roundabout on the Glascote Road

No need to worry though, as he flew by and pulled some chappy in a Mondeo (not speeding) - obviously an ANPR trap.

Touch wood, i have found local plod very good, helpful and supportive (e.g. they warned us this week of a spate of breakins at night near our office). Shame that the CID chaps have to spoil the image

I was advised (as a woman) by a policeman, never stop for an unmarked car and drive straight to a police station and they won't do you. Doesn't help you blokes I'm afraid. But there is no way I am stoping for a couple of blue lights. Interestingly I saw a Golf R32 with a couple of blue lights in the grill. Flashed me out of the way on the motorway.....git!
