Smile Scoop or No Scoop? What ya recon

Are Subaru not doing away with the Scoop on the 06 model to satisfy the new car safety regulations?

These are the regs that are supposed to increase the survival rates of people when they are run over. i.e. engine must not be too close to the bonnet so it can crumple. Bonnet not to sharp at the front, no bits sticking out of the bonnet to take off people's heads. etc etc.....

I'm all for safety but sometimes I think, why the **** aren't they educating people not to walk out in front of on coming traffic

If you're gonna get knocked over I don't think whether the car has a scoop or not is going to be your main worry...

Precisely - this gov't is too good at dealing with the symptoms, rather than solving the root cause.

I've never been run down, cos I had a big bloke in a green suit teaching me to cross the road at school

Exactly, these idiots now that deliberately walk slowly infront of cars cause they think they are hard. Prime example is school kids now, they have no respect for road users.

Of course we have, cos its gov't legislation that is going to remove the scoop, and in turn help the Impreza to lose some of its identity.

If it was just Subaru's decision as a manufacturer then fair enough.

oh by the way the new regs are not being imposed bu uk euro, it is the US market that is driving this forward.

they have new regulations coming into effect for frontal passenger space so they dont have to wear seat belts and pedestrian safety, and unfortunalty america is too bigger market for any manufacturer to ignore, and we are to smaller market to make models which they cannot sell in the US.

euro ncap stuff isnt a regulation it is purely a marketing exercise.

thank the fat americans for ruining everyones car designs
