quick `running in` advice
I have just bought an Impreza (1994 wrx) that has had a rebuild, crank, pistons, head gaskets, big end bearings etc. I was wondering how long I should run it in for, I have been told conflicting things, max 3000rpm for 500 miles, or 4000rpm for 500 miles. Then take it to have the head bolts checked, and just looked over.
Thanks for any help,
Alex.

Has any body got any opinions on the method of running in?
I've always found good results from ensuring that I don't keep the revs static i.e. doing 50 miles at a constant 3000rpm without fluctuating the rpm. If I'm on a long journey, I would go from 2000-3000rpm (first 250 miles) then the following 750 (ish) miles varying between 2000-4000 rpm. It just means slowing down and (gradually) speeding up on Motorways.
This method seems to hold up quite well and always gave me decent results (compared to friends) when running in the two-stroke bikes.

what i did when running in was change the oil after a 100 miles, then again after 200, then again after another 200 then one final oil change after 500 miles. for the first 500 miles didnt go above 3000rpm and last 500 miles went to 4000rpm. no motorway driving at all. hope this helps
