number plates - legal letter placement ?
Is there a problem with moving the letters on a number plate slightly ...
e.g
A123 XYZ
to
A123X YZ
if so ... how likely to get picked up and what's the fine ?
cheers, mark.

A personalised reg remains the property of DVLA, you merely buy the entitlement to display it on your vehicle.
IF you seriously abuse the spacing and get caught a number of times, the DVLA can remove the entitlement from you, in return they will issue you a Q plate for the car.
If you are going to mis space the plate, do what the 2 people above have done. Use a standard font. You are far more likely to get stopped if it is itallic. If the plate can still be read properly it is not half as bad.

I know this is the law but I wonder if it has ever happened? Suspect not.
Full rules on the DVLA website
Quote: "Characters must not be moved from one group to the other (e.g. A242 ABC must not be displayed as A242A BC)."
Personally I'd risk it but if I got stopped I'd change back pretty sharpish.

nothing on my plate is closer together than the legal requirement. its just the other letters are more spaced out.
if you a worried put the originals in the boot and if you get stopped just say you forgot to change them after a meet.
