Default Which Forester to go for?

Hi,

My dad is just about to buy a new Forester, but which one is best to go for the standard 2 litre or the 2.0l turbo. Are there any owners out there who can make some recommendations.

cheers

Ash

Depends on how quick he wants to go and/or how often he wants to fill it up

The 2.5 is too thirsty choice between the 2.0l non-turbo and the turbo really. Thinks its going to be the all weather as well in whatever model as he has a big muddy german shepherd to lug around.

Not sure which is best in terms of driveability, is the non-turbo very underpowered as its a heave vehicle

cheers

Probably best going for the non turbo then as there is'nt much difference between 2.0xt & 2.5xt MPG wise. 2.0 non turbo good all round but if your going to tow then stick with the 2.0 turbo imho.

2.0XT The wife has one, and tbh it's a much better all round car than an impreza.

I wouldn't worry about the weight. Forester 2.5 is 1490 Kg, Impreza is 1396 Kg. Neither of those are heavy compared to a lot of cars out there, especially when you look at the weight of any with AWD. A Porsche Cayenne, now that's heavy...

I think that probably rules out the STi - on fast cornering I can imagine the dog crashing from one side to the other of the load area, plastering mud on everything...

Perhaps a trailer for the dog would be better.

www.subaruforester.com

Check out the Europe section

Personally, I would go for an import St/b Forester with 260bhp

and it is more practical then the wifes Impreza,

Go for an S/tb and if you can get one - train the dog to lie down, we got our dog one of those beds which look like a doughnut so the dog doesnt fly from side to side when I chuck my S/tb round corners. Plus you can do this in a normal forester, an STI you'd rip the bumpers off!
