my car is sti MY03
did someone have problems with the car after instaling PPP
can i drive sti ppp on petrol of 95 ron or less and will i have problems

97RON is the recommended minimum for PPP cars of all ages IIRC.

But defintely everything MY98 onwards.

Mine says 98 RON on the inside of the filler flap! <cynical mode on> I think they have a deal with Shell!!! <cynical mode off>

Prodrive say use 97ron or above, this will be because the map on the ECU will be based on this octane level. A lower level might cause knocking and engine damage. Personally its Optimax every time in mine, as it was even before the PPP was fitted. The cleaning agents prevent carbon deposits building up choking the car.

I think you need clarification from either Mike Wood or someone else from Prodrive on this.

It clearly states this in the Prodrive blurb on the product...

Now reading, it states that they recommend for maximum benefit, but it doesnt say YOU MUST.

I would stick with Super though until you get an official response from Prodrive.

Further clarification should be made as to whether or not we can use octane booster when no super unleaded or optimax is available. eg. holidaying in offbeat areas.

I have an 03 STI PPP and almost always use optimax, but on rare occasions have used unleaded and it has seemed fine! I would like to know if this is going to be a problem also??

We recommend that the car is run only on Super Unleaded, just the same as the std STi.

In an emergency, the engine will still run on Unleaded but the performance will be reduced and it wouldn't be impossible to damage the engine this way. If you had to put in unleaded then the car should be driven carefully until you can find Super.

same as p1 then,i remember being told it ran perfectly on 95 ron and it was not worth spending any extra as it would not help-good old subaru dealers!
surely the ppp map could adapt to the normal unleaded,ecutek allows adaption!

The Prodrive blurb for my 01 PPP WRX is clear: it can be run on 95 RON, but they recommend 97 RON. I use 97 RON from Sainsburys, but fill up with Optimax every few tankfuls. No detectable difference in performance. The performance effect from the weather would make it very difficult to detect in any case.

The ECU with the PPP map does 'allow adaption' that's why it reduces the performance when it's not happy. Just don't expect it to run anywhere near as well on lower octane fuel.

i do not have fuel of 95ron available (i drive my car now on 95ron" i hope" and use a octane booster liqui moly,wyns,stp only 3 available) the only way i can have 98ron is if i det cat my car (we have 98ron but it is not unleaded)
so what do you suggest to my about installing ppp if i run my car without ppp on 95ron it will anway go faster if i install ppp mabye not as fast as i should run but it will go faster.

ppp gives my confidence that will have no trouble with the engine that is why it is my number 1 choice for making my car go faster.
pls. clear will i benefit from ppp on 95ron i have no way to test the ppp sti

Still no good as the lead in the fuel will poison the lamda sensor which will still need to be retained even if the cat is removed.

as i siad fuel of 98ron is not available only 95ron and i run my car for almost 2 years on that fuel. A couple of time i used 98 ron and on the highway i did not feel the difference
only time i felt the diffrence when i used v-power 100ron from shell
so pls. read the above and anwser my

It may help us answer you better if you tell us what Country you're in. I'm guessing at Spain/France. There's not much point having a PPP if you can't feed it properly. It's as crazy as sleeping with Girls Aloud wearing a deep sea diving suit ;-)

You're unlikely to see any benifit by fitting PPP if you can't get 97/98 Ron fuel, other than you'll be £2000 worse off.

i am aware of that but as i said i already run my car on 95ron with octane booster, the car without ppp also must use 98ron for full performance of the car,so i think that my car
will benefit from ppp and will go faster then it does now mabye i am wrong .

The PPP, amongst other things, increases the boost pressure of the turbo. Doing this on a car running on 95ron sounds like a recipe for disaster to me, octane booster or not.

No wishing to be rude, you've not answered my question! What Country is this car in?

You'll not know if you car is ok on 95+booster until it goes bang and then it's too late. Have you fitted a knock link?

I don't think Mike Wood is going to say anything hugely different than the other posts in this thread.

Have you bought the deep sea diving suit yet or are you happy with the one you're using? ;-)

i have 100km form Belgarde in Croatia 98ron and 200km in Hugnary 100ron but i can not goi there all the time
I drive my car for 2 years now with no problem i hope it stays that way if not i will have to buy a BMW like before a had a 330i convertable

Now I understand why it's difficult to get decent fuel! I'd still suggest you fit a knock link to see if you're getting any det.

Where would you go to get a PPP fitted? Are there any Ecutek mappers in your area who could map you car for best performance on the fuel there?

thank you Ian for the link you gave me
i called him and he advised my to bring with fuel that i run my car and he will do the rest but as i found out here on the forum the reprogram of the ecu is only good as the person who is doing it.
He told me that he has done 7 to 8 cars only can he be trusted?
prodrive is i think a sure thing without mistake and if mike wood does not what to anwser me about ppp and fuel issue i will have to leave my car as it is for now
but i am not giving up

Everybody has to start somewhere. Ask him for recommendations and talk to the people who's cars he's mapped. Alternatively, get yourself(+car+fuel) over to the UK, there are plenty of experienced mappers over here.

I'd still fit a knock link to see if you're getting any det as standard. Is your car standard? If not what modifications have you done so far?
