Sorry I don't know where to buy the mesh, but there was a thread about it and some technical guy explained that it's a bad idea.
Reduced airflow or something. Not 100% sure but worth a search.

Mark,
Not trying to Flame you personally I don't think thats a good Idea.
If could diagonally close the mesh up, you would create a solid oblong sheet This would show how much you'd reduce the size of Scoops apperature to your TMIC. Small sized mesh could restrict apperature by 40% and would restict airflow by Far more. IMHO IIRC

these statements both hold true. Meshes, no matter what they're made of are extremely restrictive to air flow. If you need the mesh to deal with flying mud/gravel because you're an Group-N rally driver, then I might agree with it. Seeing as you probably want a mesh to look cool (shudders) I would steer well away from it. No need to raise the poor thing's temoperature for a piece of steel chickenwire. The fact that next to nobody has any on their scoobs must be a hint that it's not worth having.

So why have Prodrive deemed it necessary to put one on the WR1??

I'll have to agree with mpr on this one, the WR1's mesh is there for cosmetics. Have you seen the gap in the bumper, the chances of a stone flying in there and wrecking your radiator are pretty slim.
If you had a FMIC then it would be a different story as the black plastic is removed and exposes the face of the FMIC making the fins susceptible to flying debris.
