Angry Subaru Warranty Services extended cover rip-off

Had a letter through from Subaru Warranty Services offering me an extended warranty on my Subaru as it is now 3 years old (£539 for 24 months). Letter dated 10th January with a note across the top stating prices will rise by at least 15% after 13th January. Letter arrived on my doormat on the 15th January. Rang Subaru Warranty Services straight away. Sorry systems are down they said we will get back to you. No response. Rang them today. Sorry new policy now in force due to FSA. I explained the situation regarding the timing of the letter. Were not prepared to budge. I asked the price for 24 months extended cover. OVER £1,000!!! Apparantly if I had rung on the 13th January I would have got it for £539 but as I had not been offered the extended warranty until the 15th January that would have made it very difficult.

Not happy.

Not when it used to be £539 it isn't Guess they have so many claims that they had to put the price up. And Subarus are supposed to be reliable Only reason I'd buy it is if I was gonna sell within the 5yrs to make it a more attractive sale Everyday it seems they find a new way to tarnish the ownership experience

how can they possibly justify that increase just because of FSA rule changes.

i extended my WRX warranty last November for just over £500 (for two years with the 60,000 miles limit)

as i had just put the PPP, prodrive springs and big brake kit on i thought it was good value for money but, at £1000, i would have thought more than twice about it.

interested to hear their explanation!

IIRC

If you limit your cars milliage to under 60Kmiles by the end of the 5th year, 2 years extended is tehn £560 ish.

If you reckon your car would go over the 60kmiles mark in 5th year, you will need the £1000 2 year extended Warranty.

£1,000 is for 24 months and 60,000 miles whichever comes first. If you do over 60,000 I hate to think what the extended warranty would be.

Sorry I was misinformed the £1,000 quote is for 1 year extended warranty and 60,000 miles whichever comes first. They no longer do the 2 year option. So price has now gone from £539 for 2 year extended and 60,000 miles to £2,000 for the new equivalent!!!!!

If subaru don't watch there will be no real reason to buy an UK supplied car soon, you would think they would lower the price.

I thought the Subaru warrenty was way overpriced so have taken out extended warrenty with a 3rd party company. Reading the blurb it seems more comprehensive than the Subaru one. There is an excess on claims though but I got it to cover major probs not niggly ones.

Thanks for this info. which I will look into further - initial quick quote from warranties on-line was £223.48 which includes AA cover - but that might change when I complete the nitty gritty details and say I have a SUBARU IMPREZA. The Proven Warranty on my second hand MY01 WRX expires at the end of February and I am dreading the renewal quote cost - not that they've sent me one yet.

Subaru extended warranty is covered by a 3rd party company called Mondeal or something, and yes prices have gone up!

Limited mileage prices were/are

1 year extended was £313 and is now £555
2 year extended to 60,000 miles was £539 and is now a whopping £1178!!

Not sure about unlimited mileage prices, to be honest I didn't want to know!!

Letters of complaint to Subaru UK I think!

Good grief, I paid £425 or something ....... its up in May 2005.

How much for 1 year on a 5 year old Impreza with 60k?? Last November 2004 I was quoted £450 for an extra 12months on my MY00.

What is THAT now??

Phew!

i am soooooo glad i extended my warranty by 2 years/max 60,000 for GBP539 back in October last year.

At well over a grand i would have probably sold the car and never returned to the Subaru fold

Thats what happens when accountants run a company

I'd be a little suspicious of that company. All insurance related products should be regulated by the FSA after 14th Jan, that site still displays the GISC logo which means little in terms of security that the company is registered to sell insurance products.

It may well be perfectly fine, but it just put me off
