Unhappy Sick sti

Does anyone have an 03/04 STI uk version with starting problems, or power steering problems, or diff problems, or shock problems? I'v had em all in the last 12months. All have been replaced. The starting problem is a Subaru problem and they do not know how to fix it!!!

If a car company can't fix things within the warranty period after 3 attempts, I think they have to offer you a alternative.

Not 100% on that mind.

What were the symptoms of your failures.

Ive had new shocks, fronts had gone loose and the rears started to stick.

The starting problems are due to the cold start map which uses a lean mixture (LA ratio = 1) to keep emissions down. This cannot be altered even using Ecutek software. On my 02STi I have found that the cold starting can be improved by giving the car a prolonged thrashing for 30-60 min. However, my slow 10 mile each way commute to work causes the starting problem to return within 2 weeks.

I understand that Subaru have now identified the cause of the rear damper clonks and redesigned a part in the damper. Thus the fix is to replace the dampers with the new design. There was a thread about this in the Suspension forum recently to which somone from Prodrive explained the cause.

I am not aware of your other two faults.

Alan
