Any thoughts on this...or is is just Bull?

It's the sort of thing you'd have on a gearbox drain plug to catch metal chips to prevent them floating around and doing damage.

As for the engine oil, if there were little bits of metal floating round in it there is very little a magnet in the bottom of your sump is gonna do to stop the impeding failure .....

erm most sump bolts are magnetic these days...

the purpose it to remove any stray chips of metal that are floating around,

contary to popular belief engines do wear!!! it dosent have to be big bits, ., but fillings that sort of stuff,, if you look at old oil, it will have small metalic deposits in it,, its to attract some of these build ups..

Perhaps a better solution could be to reduce the time/mileage between oil changes.

I've bought them for my 2 scoobies, can't do any harm as far as I'm aware, there are things in an engine to stop swarf, but every little helps.
