This week (I hope!) I'll be taking delivery of a MY93 WRX.

However, I've never driven anything like a Scooby, and want to know if I've bought a good'un in terms of handling/performance etc.

I was wondering if anyone who knew Scoobies fairly well, was willing(!) to take my Scooby out for a spin to see if it's all OK (for a Scooby).

Alternatively, is there an independant garage/dealer in the SE that would provide this 'service'.

Am I mad to even post this?

Jerome.

Pray that the usual suspects on this bbs don't read this thread.

Think you'll have a very large queue wanting to 'test' your new pride and joy.

Can understand your reasoning though.

Jerome,

Personally, I would take your car along to a specialist and get them to inspect it - this would tell you far more than someone just driving it.

I suggest you take your car for an inspection if it has been delivered from Japan. Its always advisable to change all fluids if you are unsure of its history. I took mine to Scoobysport in Basildon who inspected my WRX once delivered and was impressed by their service. Power Engineering are closer to you and also do inspections, but I personally have no experience with them.
If the car is filthy when delivered don't despair! they all come off the boat like that and it doesn't mean its been neglected, but having said that its probably been sitting idle for 6 weeks minimum, which I'm told can affect the engine belts life. So if your cars mileage is close to that of the cam belts service, I'd get them done too.
Getting someone to drive it? be prepared for a few blaggers!
Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies so far.

Maybe I should have clarified that the car is being supplied by a grey import specialist that has RAC approval. The car will also come with a full RAC report. I doubt there will be any serious problems with the car.

I just reckon I'll be pussyfooting it around for a while, and would rather realise it's underpowered/handling badly as soon as poss.

As for blaggers, I anticipated that and will screen people carefully.

Richard,

High Wycombe doesn't sound too far. I'll email you when I've taken delivery.

As for Factiva, yes it is the Dow Jones/Reuters joint venture. I'm amazed anyones heard of us...

David,

I certainly am based at St. Katherines Dock.

I gather you work for Instinet. Are you in St K's dock as well then?

Jerome.
