insurance write off?
Hi all,
The girlfriend managed to crash her car the other day....
If the insurance company write it off will we be able to take the alloys off and remove the stereo?
The wheels are declared but not covered by the policy.
company is elephant.co.uk.
Cheers,
craig.
oh and in case she reads this..... NO. You cant borrow mine

Nope!
I tried to blag my exhaust and rear spoiler from my bug-eye wrx write-off,The insurers told me that they will receive a bid/and or a number of bids for the car"as it stands"so removing parts was a no,no
But dont forget the car is yours until they have paid you out!

Once its a write off u arent officially allowed to take any parts off UNTIL they make you an offer for the car. Until that point you can take what you like usually, as long as you replace it with the standard parts. However, some garages are fussy about doing this, and in certain cases wont let you do anything until approved by the insurer. Also dont expect any help from the garage or insurer on removing any parts.
I'm going through this at the moment. I was unable to get my backbox and stereo mainly due to there not been any space to work on the car But the total loss figure did (alledgely) take into account the car as a whole, yeh right I did get cosmetic things, like the gknob, mats, indicator lenses etc.

.whilst the vehicle is awaiting payment it is still yours; the insured's car ;and as such as long as you return the car to a standard and roadworthy condition it is very very rare for the insurance company and the holding yard or garage to say no..BUT you will need authorisation from your insurance company usually before any garage or holding yard will allow you any where near it..And obviosly this will need to be made known to the assesor dealing with your claim as may affect the vehicles value..
I deal with stuff like this all the time..

I took my wheels off and replaced with standard ones.
Wanted my alarm but they moved the car before I could get it out. As they moved it to the other end of the country without telling me they paid me £250 for it.
