Angry Thanks Subaru.......

Is it just me or is nobody else pi$$ed off with Subaru bringing out a new model every two years as they have done for the last two. In doing so, they help your car depreciate immensely - I mean, who is going to buy an older looking model when for a few grand more, you can get the 'current' model?

I was aiming to buy a new STi this summer however, due to them releasing yet another facelift model, I might not bother......

If you know they do it every two years should it not be expected?

Merry Xmas.

Or a better paying job

A friend of mine used to trade his Mondeo in every year. It cost him at least £4000 each to get the newer model, even though he always done less than average miles.

If you're concerned about losing money - don't buy cars, buy property!

So Steve it doesn't bother you that your STi will lose about a third of its value when they bring out (another) facelift car? or perhaps you have more money than sense......

Doh!

Which part of product development don't you understand?
You want them to keep their product looking a bit stale and 'old' purely to protect your depreciation???

Modern production techniques mean that ALL manufacturers can update and freshen styling much more often than before. So why shouldn't they?

If sales are flagging with a certain 'look', it makes fine business sense to change that 'look'.

I don't remember ever seeing any manufacturer giving out guarantees on :

1) future residual values
2) future model revisions (or lack of!)

Can't see why you're so bothered???????
Cars depreciate - FACT.
Model revisions are made - FACT.

Ummm...maybe it's because when I pay 27k for a car, I don't want it to be worth 10k two years later

How many other vehicle manufacturers consistently facelift their cars every two years?

I bet Subaru are so glad that they have people who are so understanding as you.....

As I said, depreciation is a FACT, not fiction when it comes to car ownership. There are no guarantees. Past performance is not a guide to future performance - a phrase you've no doubt heard many a time before.
If you don't want to lose £17k on a car over 2 years, perhaps it's time you reconsidered how & when you spend your money as playing the "low depreciation" game is a game that disappeared long ago from the Subaru marque (late 90's).

As I said before, exactly where did Subaru state that they would protect residuals, or prevent model revisions when you purchased your car?.

How many other vehicle manufacturers consistently facelift their cars every two years?
Errr....lots. You're buying a consumer product, not an investment.

Paid well enough, but perhaps you need to SPEND it a bit more carefully
Brand new cars are one of the quickest ways to lose your hard-earned. So long as you realise that..........the smart money in the last 5 years has been on property and not motorbikes, two cars, and a motorhome

Why else would I be running around in a 14 year old car......

Given the ugliness of the facelift for the end of 2005, I can see older models holding their value a bit more, at least if the new late-05 engines are installed into them :P

Just as they have the Legacy looking spot-on they go and ruin the Impreza.

I agree, and given the recent development on the Legacy, I can see more Impreza drivers looking to buy one instead of an Impreza.
The new Legacy STi is an absolute stunner.

Lum, I hope you don't mind but I've copied your pic from an earlier post.

Dear father Christmas,
Can I please have a Legacy STi for my main present.

Maybe its people like you who always have to change their car for the newest thing. From your post it seems like you have a car thats only a few years old, why not keep it or perhaps mod it.
