Betws-y-Coed (correctly spelled now)
Is it worth coming over from Belgium to spend a few days driving on Welsh road ?
Tarmac and gravel of course...
I read do much about those roads in EVO magazine that it has to be such a thrill....

Welsh Roads
Hi, Creepy,
You will find good tarmac roads around Betws-y-Coed and plenty of small single track roads, but not for speeding on.
The gravel roads in the WRC are on Forestry Comision land are closed to motor vehicles for the rest of the year.
The main road through Clocaenog Forest (B5105) is good and twisty but can also be busy.
The local Police are aware of rally fans visiting the area to try out the roads so you have to keep a sharp lookout.
I do not recommend trying to speed on the public single track roads, you are likely to meet traffic coming toward you.
The A5 has some good fast twisty bits which can be spoiled by slower traffic but the long straights are good for overtaking on, but you need to watch out for speed cameras. The A5 out of Llangollen towards Corwen goes through the Horseshoe pass which is spectacular but you need to watch for sheep on the road. Also this time of year through to February/March you are likely to encounter snow and ice there (I mean SERIOUS snow i.e. deep, with possible road closures).
Sounds like I am painting a poor picture for you, but you need to be aware of what you might come accross.
You might be better buying a Playstation2 and getting a WRC rallying game !!!

Last year, we did over 100 mph on the M25 because otherwise we would missing the ferry. I 100% sure that I was "trapped" then, but no speeding ticket so far, I tought that foreigners had to be caught on scene...

creepy, ignore all those negative comments above, the roads around betws-y-coed are awesome.
The smacs go there annually, and we're visiting again next monday
Yes, it does have a reputation for being heavily policed, but in all the miles I've done around there, I've seen only 1 static camera, and no mobile cameras at all .
Come on over, and get in touch with carl555dbm, redwrx or myself, and we'll sort you out with some fantastic roads.
Have a look here for details of our last trip.

Strange how you can't hear the caravan going over the cattle grid... it suppose it wasn't in contact with the ground at that speed..?

A470 to Llanidloes and then take the B4518 for Llyn Clywedog [Clywedog lake/resevoir]. Visibility is generally excellent, there is little traffic, no cameras (still I hope) and it is aboultely beautiful (if you can take your eye off the line for a split sec ). MUCH better than the 'easy' A roads near Betws with their bloody 35mph sightseers and caravans!!!!
