Thumbs up Q's from a new owner

Guys, Girls,

I've finally gone and done it - picked up my 97 Impreza yesterday

now, these may seem like stupid questions, but hey i'm new...

I want to fit an electonically adjustable drivers seat, how hard is this, i mean if they were made with all the brains in the seat base it self it should be fairly easy one i track one down, i.e. just run power to it... Although maybe the loom is already there? (97 2.0 GL)

What id really really fancy is the one touch memory variety - was this ever avalible for any of the classic impreza range??

-----------------

Is there an Electronic Parts Catologue and a electronic workshop manual readily avalible that would cover my car? (97 GL)

-----------------

how easy would it be to replace my front bumper with one off a turbo or WRX and where is a good place to get one for reasonable dosh? (the bumper with the rally sized fogs) Again getting the bumper and fitting it might be the easy part, did they include fog wiring loom on a GL?

any help on the above would be great as i am gonna have my car look as close to an external rally replica as i can get it from the base i have and elec/mem seats would prove very useful for my needs

if there are any scoobynetters in the croydon / sutton or surrounding areas it would be good to make contact with you

Not sure about the wiring side but to add fog wiring is a fairly simple job once you have a switch and a relay. I believe bumpers and bonnets will be a straight swap although you will have to declare the body alterations to the insurance company and they may increase the premium a lot due to the number of Turbos being stolen. As for your seat, how many people are going to drive it ??? and is it really worth the hassle ?? Spend your money on something else.

I'm in Coulsdon if you ever need help.

I'm not far from stafford rd wallington myself...

oh the other major thing i want is the oz rally mag alloys, (if anyone has the true name / part number for these things in gold it'd be a bonus)

Square up to peter solberg and tell him that??

or me for that matter, no offence but if your tastes are different to someone else's that doesn't automatically make them or girl or a gay, what a childish comment

for your information a blue impreza is probably THE only car i'd EVER stick a set of gold alloys on... but thanks for the useless comment

riiidaa, welcome to Scoobynet I see you've already met (possibly) our oldest resident - don't let him get to you, it's the drugs they slip in his cocoa I'm sure.

Electrically adjustable seats were available as part of the Prodrive Interior Pack, which used to be available for Turbo models through Subaru dealers. Whether it still is or not I don't know - probably not, as it was for the classic shape car only with no replacement for the new shape cars. It was frighteningly expensive too, so very few people ever bought it. Electric memory seats have never been available.

If you're going to replace the front bumper - and as others have said, it's a questionable way to go given the expense and increased theft risk - then I'd strongly recommend fitting driving lights instead of fogs. The standard fog lamps are pretty much uesless even on the one day a year it's foggy enough to justify using them, whereas driving lights are pretty much essential whenever you find yourself on an unlit B-road after dark. I had the Prodrive ones on my '00 turbo and they were great, but there are equally good alternatives. Check out the Lighting & Electrical forum.

Andy, thanks for your informative post, looks like subaru mem seats don't exist then, but maybe a scrappy might have electric seats, i was kinda wondering if maybe the legacy etc had them and used the same base mounting points?

on the bumper thing im not sure of myself where it comes to fog / driving lamps but as long as they are big and round and fill the gap in the turbo / p1 styles of bumper that is the look i was after. it may have to wait a bit tho cos of Xmas and other expenses.

I might even go down the road of Orthopedic Aid seat bases to get the elec/mem adjustment... was just exploring my options
