Since my incident at Abingdon nearly a month ago now my car has been running Lumpier than Scammel wheel nut soup.
The cam sensor has been replaced, the plugs have as well, the timing has been remedied the Valves are straight the compression is OK.
What the smeg is wrong? can anyone shed any light on this, the cars is fine up until 4000RPM when it starts to act like a dog on heat. Could it be something more sinister?, am I in for a big bill?
Techies please help!!

Scott,
When you say a dog on heat, do you mean misfiring, mega power loss etc?? Does the "check engine" light come on as well??
I own a '91 Legacy RS and had a similar sounding problem but the RPM was 3000. Subaru mechanic traced it to a faulty ignition relay, once replaced - no problem!

Hi Rob
It has had a full diagnostic, nothing came, surley if it was ignition it show on the subaru diagnostics wouldn't it??
Anyway its strange the car is fine when its cold (not that I take above 3000rpm until its hot anyway)but when the car is warm above 4000 rpm it jerks violently.
Spoke to Pete at SS taking th ecar there on Monday, he thinks one of the possible problems could be a holey piston.Bobbins!!

I had a simmilar problem which turned out to be a duff coil-pack, a naff MAF will also cause this problem but this should show up on an engine check.
The only error I ever got was when I had to take my sick scoob on the motorway at 70 and the catalyst error light came on, this was due to the unburnt fuel.
If you have a later car then I think you don't have coil-packs but maybe a HT problem?

My car is a 98 so it won't be a coil pack will it?
This morning on my way to work I decided to test a few things the car is fine between 1 - 4000 rpm from 4 - 5500 rpm nightmare anything above that and its service as normal??
Can anyone shed any light on this??

Aha, ok - seen two cars that have done that.
Something to do with the wastegate solenoid - don't ask me what - but it needs adjusting / replacing.
Very scary as you think - WTF? if you go up to the revs in 4th or 3rd then drop a gear you can run above this to get to the garage Go this weekend.
