Make sure the cambelt was changed at 45,000 and for the sake of it ask if they could replace the MAF and lambda sensors, just incase

FSH Subaru or specialist is a must!! If not, walk away.
HPI check
Independent inspection (AA or similar).
Speak to the owner and get a feel for how much interest they have taken in the car. Do they know what oil goes in it, for example. What petrol do they use. Optimax or- at least- super unleaded is prefered. If the owner takes you for a test drive, do they let the car warm up before extending it and let it cool down afterwards?

Find one well cared for and you'll be laughing. . if not you'll be crying all the way to the bank!

Good hunting.

Best.

new to the community as well just, just in the process of puting my scoobie back together after a few problems it had and wish i had found scoobynet earlier would have possibly saved me some money but still love the car and cant wait to get it back on the road, if the car is not a subaru approved car then i would look into getting a aa check for piece of mind and possible comeback, wish i had done it.

Had an MY00 DBM 4 door. The only problems I had with it were that the brakes kept catching. Try sticking it in reverse And you will hear the brakes catch. Also ended up changing the MAF sensor. One of the signs that the MAF is on it's way out is that the idle will be aractice at tick over when at a stand still. It's a must that this is checked as it could men a blown engine later on.

Def wagons the way to go. Had 3 and not regretted one. They are pricey though to maintain & insure but hey - what the hell
