If you want to put your car back to standard for trade-in give me a shout on your wheels to swap (+ cash) with mine.
Cheers

It's actually not that bad an offer - I was offered £6500 for my UK MY00 with 70k in immaculate condition with some Prodrive toys included, against a brand new £27k Evo.

I laughed and walked away, but although I did get a better price privately it did take a while.

I've given up trying to sell mine, got offered 7k against a 14k car @ wicket kit, not a bad offer, but not quite what I wanted.
Decided to keep mine for a while more, but will keep it on scoobynets "for sale" section, just in case
chris.

Seems like a half decent price from a dealer, a guy near me was in a similar situation, he wanted some BMW diesel for around 10k, they offered him £5500 for his 98 2 door type R, could'nt believe my ears !!!

I was offered 8700 for my mint MY01 WRX wagon with 23K miles when i know next week it will be about £11k on their forecourt, decided to keep it and PPP coming in 3weeks instead.

i paid £10800 just over 2 months ago, added a STI8 spoiler at £400, all fluids changed, new battery, new wheels/tyres which add up to around £1k so it stands me at around £12k so i've lost £3700 in less than 3 months

1 dealer had a glasses guide which showed it at £8973, then came back from his managers office saying the new (december) book price had dropped £650 !!!!!!!!!

Recently went through the same depressing trade in scenario.

We decided to buy a 530D sport and were offered 10K for our pristine MY02 WRX with 21000 miles and all the right bits.

Was initially gutted as we had bought it new in sept 02, but then again the BMW had lost £20K in the same time!

Then got offered £11K by a Subaru dealer, so advertised it privately for £13K

Not even a sniff, so reduced it to £12K no offers and had people linning up for it! and sold to first person who looked at it

IMHO. Private sales are the way to go but you must advertise at the RIGHT price - just look at all the dreamers with cars sitting for ever in the autotrader. It gives an inflated false impression of second hand prices that are not achievable with private sales.

The price you've been quoted is not necessarily the TRUE value of your car... It's what the dealer is willing to give you for your car against what he paid for the BMW and what it wll cost him to sevice/MOT/Valet/warranty and what he can expect to trade/sell your p ex for. For example, were you to p/ex for a £20k car yours would be worth more.

£6,000 is excellent for a MY98 WRX I think. I bought a MY97 STI with all the STI extras, in June for £5,500. I really think you'll struggle to get 6k in the private market at the moment. It's bad out there!
