Question

Anybody know what happened to all the other bits that came off the STI's that then went on to become the P1's, I know the wheel and tyre sets went to the dealers but what about the other bits ?. Presumably there's a warehouse at Prodrive full of STI front bumper/spoilers. I've a V3 STI and wouldn't mind fitting the V5/6? front spoiler to get rid of the quarter splitters. Was there any other decent bits that were replaced by P1 bits ?.

I have it on good authority that the spoilers are cut in two and thrown in the bin.

What a waste.....

If the P1 spoiler is like the V5/6 front spoiler, it merely has an extra lip - so an V6 spoiler is a V5 with an extra bit attached to it.

The P1 will be a V5 spoiler with a different extra lip. So the whole spoiler would not be replaced. You can buy the V6 extra lip for a V5, it's around £220.

Trying to remember the differences between the P1 and the STI, I find it astonishing that they've seemingly junked everything that was changed - that's 2,000 front seats, 1,000 front and rear spoilers - what else was there ?. I'm sure there's a market for these bits - Scoobynet for instance !

Question

Is it true that P1s have the longer gearing too ?

if so....I'd love to get my hands on one of the shorter geared Type R boxes they must have junked

You have to bear in mind that if they flooded the market with all these spare seats spoliers etc, then Prodrive would be diluting the market for their own "approved" upgrades !!??

Thanks

Sent Simon Lines of Prodrive an EM after seeing his name on the PPP thread. The P1's were built to their UK spec in Japan, the only parts to be changed when they reached the UK were front springs (scrapped) and the sets of wheels and tyres which went to dealers. Now we know.

Didn't look like that when I saw loads of STi's on wagons going down the motorway.

Looked very much like standard 2 doors except no blacked out glass. I seem to remember someone at Prodrive smirking when someone asked on a recent visit....

My bet is the seats are sent away to be re-trimmed and then put back in !?! . Perhaps the other bits end up on rally cars ????
