I did a 5.90 to 60 in my v5 Type R. Thought it felt REALLY quick, so hats off to the testers who can get the time down to 4.2!!!

Of course, I wouldn't suggest the test cars are other than perfectly standard!

BTW, I was using octane booster and water spray (yes, the aircon was off) but it was pretty hot and the car has felt swifter on a cool damp day.

Was I a wuss?

Not doing any of the following classifies you as a wuss in the 0-60 world:

1) Holding the engine anywhere below 6000 rpm at the start.
2) Not side-stepping the clutch at the green light.
3) Using the clutch to change gear.
4) Lifting off the gas to change gear.

Hi neil,

i had lots of fun and lots of problems at silverstone.

During my first run my boost started to drop away from 1.8 bar peak and was down at 1.4bar by the end of the session, turns out the heat has bent my waist gate shaft so the boost backed off.

I came in to the pits and let it cool down then fired it up for the second run only to find my throttle jammed full open.

The heat from my turbo melted the throttle cable. I then spent the next 2 hours trying to find a cable, no one had one. I ended up borowing one from my old cosworth that was on show on the yorkshire RS stand. I bought some extra heat shielding and put that round the cable so i wouldnt melt that one.

I ran in all the afternoon sesions and had huge fun, i passed MikeR in his cossie out of copse but wont be claiming his scalp as he had big problems with drivability as he had boost problems with his new spec motor.

I spent most of the afternoon playing around with sideways drifts through the complex in particular, big giggle.

On my last run i was timed by Docjock and he had me doing 2min 17secs, by that point i was down to 1bar boost and very slow on the big straights. In the same session he had stef at 2min 20secs.

By the end of the day my compressor turbine had started to eat the compressor housing on the turbo so i have had to buy a new turbo.

Had huge fun all day bar the minor problems, very, very sideways in the slower corners.

Harj did well in his class and claimed a fair few cossies.

Stef pulled a rather underhand trick of setting up a video to time everybody's laps so he could slag us all off saying he was quicker. The thing is, he never told anyone about it untill the day after the event so the people who were just having fun had no way of knowing that in order to stop a slagging off they had to put in at least one fast lap and concentrate on times.

If stef comes one here and starts slagging people remember no one knew about this timing, so only he was pushing for times, makes his statements totally irelevent and makes him look a total **** IMHO.

to get home i had to return the borowed throttle cable and so asked an RS500 owner if i could borow his cable as his car was trailered and he said no probs, great bunch of people in general that do track days, very helpfull and friendly.

so all in all, huge fun and hectic like allways.

Meanwhile in the intermediate group ( no slicks - road tyres ) there were a few more cretins making it dangerous for everybody, especially the white Mk2 Escort and the bloody instuctors in Silverstone Elises !!

Chuffed to do 2 min 29's despite biiiggg brake judder, unforunately the one time I had clear track for several laps my friend with the stopwatch was feeding his face !

The red Bailey Escort was the fastest thing around down pit staight = awesome

i was there at the 0-60 run for about 15 min's the only scooby i saw do a run was a silver 4 door, it did it in 10 sec's (they got bogged down) but i was looking forward to seeing more but they didnt come while i was whatching.
i hear that a escort cossie was quickest on the day with 3.5 or sumats close
the fastest i saw was a nissan GTiR which flew up in 5.1 secs
but there was a real lack of scooby's on the 0-60 run.

And then you all awoke from you dreams

p.s I didn`t take my car on the track at
Silverstone, I had a look but the trafic
was going a bit to slow for my liking.
But on a serious note the cossies were
kings on the day.

Mobile road block with a bit of Schumey style blocking thrown in.

He actually drove an RS500 off the track right in front of me going into Priory. How that driver kept it together to make the slip rosd I don't know, best bit of driving I saw all day.

I believe he was pulled off for a talking to.

John.

I cannot believe what a little cry baby you are being!
As I have already made very clear on the RS board, the video was NOT set-up with any intention of proving that I was quicker than everyone else, as I never for a minute expected to be quicker than either Mike R, Car Crusher or yourself. It was purely for my benefit to get times for myself and a few others for comparsion, and watch me go through the complex from a camera outside the car.
You are bang out of order for coming on here slagging me off saying otherwise.
For weeks before the event you were mouthing off on the rs board saying how you were going to destroy everyone, and how no tin-top car had ever come close to you on track, for those of you that haven't seen it have a look at

John F, I think you should show a little more restraint on the BBS and not make personal comments.

Waysiders, was your car a Silver Sti? I think I have you twice on video. I think you needed more revs as you boged down. Last year at Trax I was getting 5.4 - 5.6 with wheel spin. I now have 215 tyres and a much deteriorated clutch. I did seven runs at Silverstone my best being 5.51 my worst 5.95. My best run was also with a passenger in the car!

S2, The silver car you are talking about was an Impreza sport and his best time for the day was 9.13.

I only saw the same five scoobys running all day.

White RA, Silver Sti5 typeR, 22B and the Silver sport.

What an excellent day

It's a sad day when two acknowledged "characters" like John and Stef start having a go at each other.

I'm sorry Mossy, but to come on here and call me a T**T is bang out or order.
I keep my 'silly' banter for the RS board, and would not have mentioned any of that malarky on this thread. I have never slagged anyone off, nor do I ever intend to stoop that low. I may have given the link so people could read the banter though!
I made it quite clear to John that I did NOT set up any equipment with the intention of proving I was quicker. Why would I when I honestly never expected to even be close? To come on here and try to give everyone that impression is pathetic. The tone of John's post was unnecessary. I am truly offended by his attitude.

Stef.
PS John, I've got a £10 voucher for Mothercare if you want it, I hear their range of rattles really is top notch!

Thumbs up

Stef

I timed both yourself and John (as well as several others) for a max of 4-5 laps each. These were not neccessarily representative as some were in traffic and some were clear track. They were not intended as ammunition in an "I was faster than you" argument.

I have great respect for the way both yourself and John drive and basically wanted a yardstick to compare my times on road legal SO2's to somebody I know wouldn't be holding back. (quite pleased by the way)

I'd appreciate a chat about this to clear it up (maybe at Trax ?) or mail me if you prefer.

Hope you guys sort it out cos we're all there for a laugh after all.

DJ (John)

stef, you are right, it is bang out of order what i called you. I made the mistake of putting something up here when i was extremely angry about some of the items you have been posting in reply to my techie explanations that other people could have benefited from.

I am not going to elaborate on this further, you cannot constantly have a go at me however and not expect some kind of reaction.

I did not intend to have DJ put in the middle of an argument, sadly that seems to be what i have done and i apologise to john for that.

I have been away from here for a couple of days which is why i havent posted earlier.

Apologies to stef for calling him a T**T, i should have kept my feelings to myself, i have never put anything personal on this BBS before and i never will again, i guess that may show how cheesed off i was with what i see as unjustifiable remarks made by stef.

I hope we can put this behind us, i am no longer interested in what you get up to on track stef because its taking the fun away from the events, i hope you keep it on the black stuf and kick ***, i hope to be doing the same too.

John.
Thank you for the apology, much appreciated.
However, I am still unclear exactly what it is that made you angry in the first place if not the RS thread listed above?
You mention the "items you are posting in reply to my techie questions that other people could have benefitted from" and "unjustifiable remarks from Stef".
I truly have no idea what either of these are referring to, so could you please clarify (off-line if you prefer) so that whatever it was doesn't happen again. I cannot remember having a go at you personally either.
However, I do apologise to you for turning the key in your back a little too far, but that is exactly what I do on the RS board, and you should know me well enough by now.

DocJock.
John has apologised for bringing you into this, and I have apologised for winding him up enough to give him a reason to.
I trust that is satisfactory?

Now, roll on Friday!

Stef.
PS John, I spoke to my Grandad about what makes people of his/your generation blow their lid so easily....he just said it was probably the male menopause!!
